Book Description

July 30, 1991
For Rod it was a moment out of a thousand dreams. Yet the reality was more than he could have imagined. 'Blythe!' He said her name and in his voice was all the hope he'd thought was lost. The woman he saw was even lovelier than the girl he remembered. She was still as beautiful -- tall, slender, the glorious auburn hair, the soft, vulnerable mouth and peachbloom skin -- as when he had first met her at Montclair. At sixteen, Blythe had been shy, eager to be accepted and loved, now she was poised, fashionably dressed, self-confident. But in those same velvety brown eyes Rod saw what he was searching for -- that she still loved him. Would it be possible to bridge all the silent years that had separated them? Or had they changed too much? Had too much happened to make them different from the people they had been when they had fallen in love? Was it too late? Shadow Bride continues the story of the gallant bride of Malcolm Montrose, Blythe Dorman, who struggled so unselfishly to save a marriage that should never have been, that ended tragically before her son's birth. After heartbreak, despair, and sorrow, Blythe gathers up the fragments of her life and builds a new one for them both in England. Before she can find lasting happiness, Blythe must come to terms with her past, confront her heart's truth, and search for her own heritage. To find her real identity and true love, she has to meet these challenges and choices as the woman she has become, not as the girl she once was.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why all the suspense?, September 23, 2009
By
This review is from: Shadow Bride (Brides of Montclair, Book 7) (Paperback)
Out of all the brides in the Montclair series, Blythe is one of my favorites. I am so glad there is finally a happy ending for her when she marries Rod. I wish they could have found each other sooner. I wanted to see what marriage was like for the two of them.

This is the book that really marks the difference in how Peart narrates before and after Gallant Bride. Before the seventh book, she really tries to focus on one bride, but in this book, she focuses on Garnet, Rod, and Blythe. I think it's interesting to see all the different viewpoints but I liked it better when she focused more on one character.

As abrasive and harsh Garnet is, I still like her character very much. I understand her frustration with Blythe--and sometimes I even got frustrated with Blythe myself. Blythe should have stayed in one place. I think one of the reasons Jeff became such a horrible recluse in the end is because he didn't really stay in one place as a child. He didn't really have a home except at Avalon. I'm not blaming it on Blythe, but I wish she had stayed or let Rod know what was going on. I wish she had let Sara and Clayborn know they had a grandson sooner.

It was a great read, but there was a little too much suspense in the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Long awaited sequel, March 7, 2001
By
This review is from: Shadow Bride (Brides of Montclair, Book 7) (Paperback)
This is the long awaited sequel to the Gallant Bride. This particular book brings together the union of Blythe and Rod. This book is wonderful at showing us how absence in deed makes the heart grow fonder. It also explores faith and how God sometimes seems to make no sense.

The only draw back with this particular book, is that Jane Peart tends to draw out the reunion a little too long. The two charactors live within miles of each other, yet don't meet for years. This does add to the story but is too "edge of your seat" for my taste. This is by far one of my favorites in the Montclair Brides series, however I love them all.
