This review is from: Shadow of the Cat (Paperback)
Centuries ago, Dimitri Korakov was cursed by the evil witch whose attentions he spurned, Mavra, to live many lives and to kill his true love in each of them. And so, through the ages, that has been the repeated cycle. Once more, the spirit of the champion lives in Alexei Korakov, but this time, he has isolated himself from love or passion, except for the joy he takes in sculpting. All that changes when Dru Jordan inherits the farm next to his and the sight of her awakens feelings in him that are dangerous to them both. Their unknowing reunion has also awakened Mavra's dark soul, and once again, she is determined to destroy the lovers. However, this time, Dru knows how to defeat her forever.
*** Although there is entirely too much sensuality, despite the lack of actual intercourse, this is an intriguing story, worth reading around the more graphic scenes. Yet, considering the nature of the curse, such episodes do have merit to furthering the plot, on the plus side. In the more classical definition of a fairy tale, this has all the elements, a tortured, brooding, grim hero, an ancient curse, a witch, and a heroine armed with true love. It's just not a story for children. ***

Great Fantasy Romance,
This review is from: Shadow of the Cat (Paperback)
A long time ago Mavra the witch wanted Dimitri Korakov but he had resisted her attempts to seduce him because he loved his wife Irina. It angered her soshe caused him to be reborn time after time only to kill his true love starting with his wife.
In the present Alexei Korakov was brought up by his grandmother to hate himself and to let his time run out alone to end the family curse that turns him into a panther when he feels any strong emotion. He moves to an isolated area in Mississippi only to find he has a neighbor Drusilla Jordan who knows Alexei even though she never met him before. Maura has also awakened, determined to kill both of them this time around. Alexei wants Dru to leave the area before he hurts her but she, having felt the evil of Mavra, is determined to help him fight her though he believes he will end up killing her. Rickey R. Mallory has written a beautiful rendition of Beauty and the Beast that is so sensually erotic readers will feel the heat the two lovers generate. Both the hero and the heroine are strong-willed stubborn people, the kind one wants to have in your corner when danger threatens. SHADOW OF THE CAT is a charming adult fairy tale, a spell binding romantic fantasy readers will enjoy immensely. Harriet Klausner |
