Book Description

Four women have been found dead in the outskirts of a small Wisconsin town. The only witness, clairvoyant Celeste Risinski, observes these brutal murders through violent nightmares and hellish visions. The local sheriff, who believes in Celeste’s abilities and wants to rid their peaceful community of a killer, enlists the help of an old friend, Ian Scott, owner of a private criminal investigation agency, CORE. Because of Ian’s dark history with Celeste’s family, a history she knows nothing about, he sends his top criminalist, former FBI agent John Kain to investigate.

John doesn’t believe in Celeste’s mystic hocus-pocus, or in her visions of the murders. But just when he’s certain they’ve solved the crimes, with the use of science and evidence, more dead bodies are discovered. Could this somehow be the work of the same killer or were they dealing with a copycat? To catch a vicious murderer, the skeptical criminalist reluctantly turns to the sensual psychic for help. Yet with each step closer to finding the killer, John finds himself one step closer to losing his heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an amazing read! May 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I was generously provided a copy of this book by the author and Goddess Fish promotions in exchange for an honest review. My interest was caught immediately by the description. It looked extremely interesting, the kind of book that just hooks you and makes you want to finish it in just one night.

It far surpassed my expectations! I just got finished reading it, and quite frankly had to immediately post a review. From the very beginning, the very first page, this author ropes you in and you love every moment of it! I felt like I was clairvoyant myself, experiencing all and seeing everything for myself as the horror of the situation unfolds. It is the sign of an excellent writer when they are able to do that.

Celeste is a very well-thought out character that is easy to like. There is much more to her than the average character, though. As a clairvoyant she sees awful things, but she still tries to live a regular life. The book just flows from one exciting scene to another, as we watch the suspense and events unfold.

Would I recommend Shadow of Danger? In a New York minute! This was an outstanding read, and I will definitely be looking for the next one.

When reading romantic suspense, I tend to lower my standards for writing skills a bit. Even with those lowered standards, though, I found the writing in this novel to be extremely prosaic, repetitive and so freaking cheesy that I often found myself skimming through whole paragraphs just to get past it. Really, how many times do we need to be told that the heroine is quirky and unique because she's an accountant, a baker and a psychic who collects garden gnomes? How many times does the hero have to reach for his antacids, wondering if it's heartburn or the ache in his chest for one true love, who he will worship and adore forever having known her for less than 48 hours? Does the author have any other phrases for the female genitalia region other than "the apex of her thighs."? I want to know how it will end (even though none of the other story plots were hard to figure out: was anyone actually surprised by why Ian was really interested in Celese), but I just don't know if I can force myself through the 30% remaining in the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Gripping October 25, 2013
By Anne
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Psychics, Murder, Romance and Mystery, combine and you get a book worthy of reading. The heroine in this book is likeable and strong, she prevails over tough times and is an all-round good person, so when she starts with visions of gruesome murders she is understandably shaken. Notifying the police she waits. A few days after her visions the first body drops, enter the hero. He is a member of an elite crime fighting agency, former FBI he is protective and sharp. Contrary to the chief of police who is helping with the mystery he relies solely on reason and logic, together the heroine and hero attempt to overcome their differences of what it is to be open minded and tackle baffling crimes of a small town.
The first CORE shadow book was a pleasant surprise. I was hesitant at the start as to how the psychic aspect would be played, would it be to overpowering? Would it be believable? To answer; no. For me the psychic aspect was a nice background story, not to overpowering yet not forgotten, she wasn't solving everything in seconds and was just as confused and doubtful as the rest of the characters.
The suspense was great. The murders while gruesome and horrible were ideal for those who like crime in books. The romantic side to the book was also a pleasant read, it played equal role with the crime so for those who like romantic suspense this is the book for you!
Overall i would recommend this book and look forward to reading the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mason is a Suspense Goddess!! November 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has everything!!! Great characters, evil killers, psychic visions, romance, & surprises!!!
Celeste is living her life for others. After her mom died and her dad left her to run the Diner, she gave up her life to help out her family. Suddenly the shell of her safe, yet unfulfilling world starts to crash in on her, one nightmare at a time. But are the nightmares psychic visions or just the horrific imaginings her mind has created? As dead women start showing up, the police chief, a good ole boy with a heart of gold, calls in help from an old friend who has a private investigation firm called CORE. In comes John! Right away you can see the sparks fly and know that you are in for some fun bedroom scenes. But John doesn't believe in psychics, what's more unbelievable is his instant attraction to Celeste. As both of them battle their past, insecurities, and attraction, two killers are on the loose. Mason doesn't shy away from sexy bedroom scenes or horrific murders! The suspense will put u on edge through out the entire book and just as you expect certain twists and turns, you will be surprised and intrigued by how she gets there!!! There are something's u know right off the bat where Mason is headed, but she adds enough surprise and intrigue that it's still exciting!!! As soon as the book ends, you will be searching for more novels by her!! Enjoy!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book. August 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am only at the 51% mark on this book and I am happy to know there are still great books out there that I haven't read that are worth my time and money. I had to put this book down this morning to finally get some sleep, it was 1am but I didn't want to.

So I took this break before I pick it up again to buy her other books and write this early, mini review. Will write a complete review when done.

So far what I like is that the writing is good, the suspense and the action is there. I am not sure who the villain is but I never guesstimate the right one anyway. But most important is the chemistry between H & h is hot and I didn't have to wait forever for them to have sex. I think around the 40% mark is appropriate.

For me I get annoyed with most romantic suspense writers because they forget the romance of their romantic suspense. They get so wrapped up in the suspense they add a tiny bit of "romance" just to fit the bill. This book has both.

I'm on to finish the book.

More About the Author

I didn't pick up my first romance novel until I was in my late twenties. Immediately hooked, I read a bazillion books before deciding to write one of my own. After the birth of my first son I needed something to keep my mind from turning to mush, and Sesame Street wasn't cutting it. While that first book will never see the light of day, something good came from writing it. I realized my passion, and found a career I love.

When I'm not writing contemporary romances and dark, romantic suspense novels (or reading them!) I'm chasing after my four kids and two neurotic dogs.
