4.0 out of 5 stars Do you Like a Good Mystery?
Pros:
1. Intricate, fascinating story, in which the hero struggles to overcome a dark destiny. Very good handling of the complexities of time travel. Plot twists and surprises.
2. Elaborate end game with impressive cinematic cutscenes. Be sure you trigger all five endings plus at least one Extra ending.
3. The inventory system is easy...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars A fun, but short, game.
The game is fun and has an atmosphere that pulls you into the world. For the most part puzzles are intuitive though sometimes it's not clear what time period to be in.

Playing the game through is fun, but make sure to save the game at every chapter. There are many different endings to the game. Look up what chapter to save and load from each time you finish...

4.0 out of 5 stars Do you Like a Good Mystery?, March 9, 2003

This review is from: Shadow Of Destiny (CD-ROM)
Pros:
3. The inventory system is easy to use. Figuring out which action to take at any particular time is more of a challenge. Nice 3D graphics and music. Mostly good voice acting.

Cons:

1. The keyboard control system is unusually sensitive. You can use the mouse to pan around outdoor locations, but indoors you use only the keyboard. There are plenty of obstacles on the street that bounce you back from your intended path.
2. Although the cutscenes are fun to watch, you may have to watch some of them over and over. If you hate repetition, this is not the game for you. There is no fighting in the game, but you do see the hero die again and again, which makes the game too intense for young children.
3. The game (played on Windows XP) crashed occasionally. Also, I would have liked about twenty more save-game slots.

Bottom Line: An adventure game unlike any other. Somewhat similar to the movie "Ground Hog Day", but with darker themes and a compelling mystery at the game's core.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of best adventure/mystery games I've played!, September 25, 2005

I can't believe it took me so long to come upon this unusual adventure game. If you enjoy games like Syberia, Longest Journey, Gabriel Knight, Broken Sword, then this is the game for you. With beautiful graphics, you feel 'at home' in all the settings, as our hero Eike tries to figure out how to outwit the forces that want to do him in. No complicated puzzles or combat scenes (don't get this game if that's what you're looking for), but solving mysteries by manipulating objects and events. Not wanting to give too much away, but also wanting to hint at the type of problem-solving you encounter, tying a rope to a rail 100 years ago will not save you, but tying that same rope in the present time will help because it has not been weathered and will be strong enough to support you. And this game is worth the money. Once you finish the game, you realize there are other paths you could have taken for 6 different endings. Each ending is a masterpiece in itself, and well worth going back in the game to change 'fate'. Depending on your game-playing dexterity, this is worth over 30 hours of game time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old School Review: Shadow of Destiny, November 2, 2006

With all the high tech, plasma screen, Hi-def, 1028 dpi games that are on the market, you have to agree that they all are missing a key feature....Fun. I don't own a 360 and I stop buying PS2 games for that reason. It seems video game companies release a good game once a quarter. Games like Metal Gear and Halo are great games, but those are a given. There are great games on the market that get no press at all. Which brings me to this hidden gem, Shadow of Destiny. Back in my game playing days I worked at game store, which allowed me to borrow games. My co-worker (Bahron) told me what the premise of Shadow of Destiny was about, so I decided to borrow it.

Shadow of Destiny immerses the player into the chilling world of Eike; a man who has been grated the ability to travel back in time to prevent his own murder. Sounds like an easy job. But it's not, each time Eike saves himself, he gets himself killed. Your basic goal is to survive the day and try to get closer to what is killing you. That is the basic premise of the game. While I wasn't playing the game, my friend would play(against my permission). We both ended the games and had entirely different endings. Which is why I love this game so much. Imagine reading the Lord of The Rings and there are 5 different endings. Each one more interesting and different then the other. I feel that we are all people that make different decisions in life. When some might go right, you might go left. This is what games should be about creativity, good stories, and just fun to play. If you by chance run across this game in a used bin, give it a shot. The graphics might be outdated, but it's about game play. Remember that kids!. I give it 8 1/2 food stamps

Theres almost nothing else like it out. Sort of a 3D adventure story as a time traveler. Alot of running around a European town. It has a few endings that seems to have a cool effect on your perception of the whole event. So after you play it through a few times and see the bigger picture, it gets a more interesting view.
This is a great game ! A bit antiquated with simple textures and low poly everything, like the ps2 generation.
So
Heres hopeing someone out there makes another sweet time travel game like this in our future!

The game is fun and has an atmosphere that pulls you into the world. For the most part puzzles are intuitive though sometimes it's not clear what time period to be in.

Playing the game through is fun, but make sure to save the game at every chapter. There are many different endings to the game. Look up what chapter to save and load from each time you finish the game. Let the credits scroll through at the end and it will tell you what ending you got (using a letter system). If you get all the endings then there is extra game play.

Playing to get all endings gets very tedious even though it explains more of the story. When playing on the PC my system started blaring a loud single tone so I was forced to stop. I have not gotten all the endings as of yet.

If you can, get it for the PS2. I originally played it on the PS2 many years ago.

I have loved this game for years. The computer version is as exciting as the playstation game. I just have to get some sort of game controller for my PC. I was happy that it works on my Windows vista!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, November 26, 2008

This is one of my favorite PC games. With all the high-tech games out there, this seems a little old-school but I found it very entertaining. The best part is being able to travel through time and see all the changes that happen in the town. You meet different people in different eras that are usually related or somehow connected to each other. It was very mysterious and I liked how your decisions could change the ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just like I remembered, September 23, 2008

I used to have this game for PlayStation, and really liked it. The movement sometimes was a little difficult in tight corners, but overall a really good, fun game.
The PC version is pretty much the same as I remember the Playstation game being. The controls are even similar, which on a PC, is not a good thing. There's no option for using the mouse for movement (you use the arrow keys), and the buttons used to open the inventory and the map are non-intuitive. You use control and shift instead of the more obvious "I" and "M". Thankfully, the game comes with a sheet that explains the controls, but I found that my first time through the game I had to have that sheet sitting in front of me and I had to reference it often.
But, I can't complain too much. The actual play of the game and the plot are still a lot of fun, and I highly recommend the game. Just maybe for Playstation instead of PC.

I liked this game because it kept you on your toes. The switching back and forth was a nice change from other point and click games and you have to know when to make the switch and you can get killed, but the game will not be over. I'm not good at giving reviews but I would say that the game is worth the money.
