I am always looking for a good vampire romance novels. I was excited when I read the reviews for this one. So excited that I bought all three books (...). What a total waste of money. 4.0 out of 5 stars Temptation: Book 6 in the Shadow Dwellers series, October 3, 2002
This review is from: The Shadow Dweller Series: Volume Three (Paperback)
Courtesy of Love Romances

Damien St. James, Sinjin to his friends, and a several hundred year-old vampire, moved to New Orleans from his lifelong home in Scotland upon the death of his true love. He needed to make a new start in a new place. So he purchased a rundown bar in hopes to begin with that. Sinjin has sworn off all relationships with women beyond mere pleasure, convinced it is too painful to love and lose.

Vivian Carrington is mourning the loss of her best friend in the world. She has a rude awakening, realizing her own life got off track somewhere and she is not t he person she always longed to be. Her life is empty and meaningless, making her wonder who would miss her if she were the one who died. Vivian decides to go find herself and ends up in New Orleans, in the mysterious Sinjin's bar.

Vivian is in New Orleans to research a book her good friend is writing, truly enjoying the work and her time alone. She is in no mood to get involved in any new relationships with anyone, let alone a man too sexy for his own good. Sinjin isn't looking to get involved with anyone either, but something about Vivian fascinates him and he can't get her out of his mind. When he approaches her and she spurns his advances, he is all the more intrigued by this one woman who won't give him the time of day.

Vivian is attracted to Sinjin, despite her efforts to ignore him. When one of Sinjin's hostesses in the bar is injured, Vivian pitches in to lend a helping hand. She is surprised to find she enjoys the job, and the close contact to Sinjin that comes along with it. The longer she continues to fill in and get to know him, the more her defenses are broken down.

Vivian's peace of mind is short lived, unfortunately. There are many secrets in the New Orleans underworld, secrets she could never begin to comprehend or believe, not the least of which is Sinjin's own secret about who he really is. When those same secrets bring danger to Vivian, he must do what he can to protect her. Now he has to decide if he should tell her the truth and risk Vivian turning away from him in horror. Will she be able to accept him as he is and commit to an eternity of his love?

This sixth installment in Ms. Wilder's SHADOW DWELLERS series shows the saga is far from over. With the introduction of yet more characters and subplots, it is apparent the stage is being set for future adventures. Various paranormal and immortal beings are found throughout: witches, vampires, werecreatures, and many more. Vivian and Sinjin are a dramatic couple, opposite in many things, but alike in many more ways then they think.

There are a few jumps in the timeline of this story, which can be disconcerting as there is no warning, but this is likely due to the limitations of the length of the book. Also, a few key plotlines are left hanging, hopefully to be resolved in the next tale in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short But Good Stories!!!, November 22, 2003
This review is from: The Shadow Dweller Series: Volume Three (Paperback)
This is the first time that I've ever read J.C. Wilder's series "The Shadow Dweller Series". Even though I have not read the first two books I was still drawn into these two short stories and I will be looking for the previous books soon.

The first story is "Sins of the Flesh" which was a "Romantic Times magazine Top Pick" and my personal favorite between the two stories. This is Alexandre's story. Alexandre is a old vampire and Elder of the council. He is trying so hard to keep those that dwell in the shadows safe but he is being plagued by the mysterious deaths of the local vampires. These Vampires appear to be catching on fire and only at night. It's a race against time to find out who is hurting the vampires. On top of all that he is fighting his attraction to Sunni. She is everything her name implys. She is a young vampire and she is dogging Alexndre's heels. He is worried that he will not be able to keep her safe and so he tries without success to keep his heart safe from her but their own mutal attraction can not be ignored. Soon Alexandre finds out that Sunni has been injected with the killing potion that is killing the other vampires. He now needs to make a deal with the devil (Cass his ex-lover and now foe) in order to save the love of his life Sunni.

Temptation is the second short story in this book. This is Sinjin's story. Sinjin owns the "Chat Noir" a bar and resteraunt that is popular with the preternatual crowd as well as humans. He has noticed that a dark haired lady keeps coming in each night and he can't help but notice that she is waking his heart that he thought was long dead after the death of his best friend and lover Bliss several months earlier.

Vivian is trying to find herself after the death of her best friend Mel. She finds herself in New Orleans and working for a handsome but younger man. What she does not realize is that Sinjin is a vampire. She is also finding herself in danger from someone that is out to kill her.

Together Sinjin and Vivian explore the attraction that neither one can ignore and at the same time Sinjin finds himself protecting the women that he loves from being killed. Who is after her and why? You'll need to read the story to find out.

Both stories were well written and the chemistry between the main characters in each book is hot! This was a fast paced read and one I enjoyed very much. This was a fun way to look at at the vampire world and I really enjoyed stepping into J.C. Wilder's world.

All three books were poorly written. The character development is non-existent. The sex is not sexy or enticing. Don't waste your money on these books!
