5.0 out of 5 stars Not to be missed
A powerful and profound film that documents how our personal and collective shadows influence our lives. Intense and thought provoking, I felt this film explores our world through the len of the shadow and leaves us looking at the roots of our world's problems. It offers hope in showing us the power we have access to if we are willing to deal with our shadow self. If you...

2.0 out of 5 stars Unsettling in several ways
I found this movie, while enlightening and thought provoking on several points, to be somewhat unsettling after thinking about it for a while. It is in essence, an infomercial, containing only about 15 minutes worth of meaningful insight. It explains the shadow concept, but leaves you hanging, wanting to know more about how to tap into and learn from it. This of course...

If you are interested in moving foward in your spiritual life and shifting consciousness, I highly recommend seeing this film. It is a must for anyone wanting to undestand the struggle they feel inside themselves between their greatness and feeling completely unworthy and undeserving of love and good things.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Shadow Effect- a must see movie, June 15, 2009
This review is from: The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self (DVD)
This is the best movie of its genre I have seen. It speaks to a topic that is so appropriate to the times we are in and covers it straight forward, to the point. What makes this movie stand out even further from other "transformational" movies, is that it offers clear and concise real life examples and provides the viewer with tools and ways to apply the principles in their life and their world.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Keep A Good Beachball Down!, June 16, 2009
This review is from: The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self (DVD)
There is one scene in The Shadow Effect that says it all - a swimmer tries to keep several beach balls under water, only to have them pop up, and hit her in the face. This explosive message illustrates the point of the movie. From start to finish, fascinating scenarios address some common hypocrisies that make life difficult and exhausting. The film exposes and explains, in riveting visuals and inspired dialogue, how we can revisit our experiences and learn from them rather than begrudge them. And on a grander scale, it takes on global implications, highlighting unforgettable personalities who speak of issues not often featured in Hollywood - compassion and forgiveness. Never has a "How To" piece been this engaging. You'll want to see The Shadow Effect with family and friends, again and again. I highly recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unsettling in several ways, July 21, 2009
This review is from: The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self (DVD)
This of course can be done by visiting the website and buying the interactive dvd, courses, etc.

What I found more disturbing was the political slant that it took. It made sure to chastise certain public figures and celebrate others, which I found tasteless and unnecessary. Even more dangerous, and yes I say dangerous, is the underlying denotation that if someone is against something, deep inside they are guilty of said thing.

The implications of the above are quite contradictory to the lesson which I believe the teachers wish to convey, yet the messages are clear. These themes in the movie could definitely be taken in several different ways.

Overall the movie has left me perplexed, and somewhat disappointed in the spiritual leaders that I have looked to for so many years. Perhaps someone has sold out.

2.0 out of 5 stars You're Buying an Infomercial, Not the Course, March 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self (DVD)
Hi, I am passionate about personal development, so I bought this DVD thinking I was getting something that would help me deal with my shadow self. What really upset me was that it glossed over the topic and did nothing to show us how to actually deal with the shadow other than very general advice like "forgive yourself." Then it says at the end to go to the shadoweffect.com to learn more and it takes you to a $149 course! It's a slick and engaging "documentary" but I really just paid $20 for an infomercial. Would never have expected this from Debbie Ford, Deepak Choprah and Marianne Williamson. I have read the positive reviews on this DVD and am appalled by how gullible people are when they see famous names. Yes this is an important topic, which is why I bought the DVD, but it's just an emotional and inspiring advertisement to get you motivated to do the expensive course.

...but where's the meat?

I was more than a little disappointed to see that after you spend the $25 on the movie you are offered (what appears to be) another DVD with the practical application of the work for another $25 - and you get another copy of the movie that you can "gift" to a friend.
Why couldn't I get the complete package to begin with?

As you might guess from my title, the message is important and true while you don't get much from the movie. I was so expectantly waiting to see the movie to the point I wanted to purchase it. Fortunately I waited and got it from the library. The whole message is expressed in the trailer and for the rest is infomercial for Debbie Ford's courses. You would be better off buying any of her books.

I bought this as a gift for a close friend that I thought could use it based on all the great reviews. Three of us friends got together to watch it and all of us were disappointed and I felt bad for giving a crappy Christmas gift. It doesn't have any meat to it. It's really just a commercial and leaves you hanging and wanting more, which I'm sure is the point so you'll buy the course.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, September 27, 2011

I am a big fan of Depak and of Debbie Ford. Although this movie contained some interesting ideas and information there was no resolution. Yes we all have a shadow side and now can identify it but what to do about it if you want to live a full, joyous, free life? Well, according to this documentary you take Debbie Fords workshop. This movie felt like a giant advertisement. I was debating about getting the book but now dont think I will.

1.0 out of 5 stars All this is is an infomercial for her product, October 24, 2009

So disappointing....nothing new or different...a few friends and people who work for her telling sad stories and telling you to forgive. UUmmm we already knew that Debbie....There are so many really good movies and really good techniques out there..Maybe she should have been honest about what she was selling..
