It is hard when you know the book you hold in your hands, or see on your Kindle will be the last book of its series.
You try to slow the progress of your reading, but you look up and it's the wee hours of the morning and you just couldn't help yourself but read.
Edward Patterson is not only a prolific author, he has written my favorite book series, starting with The Jade Owl.

His background and research on Sinology is amazing. One could not hope for a more fact filled book about China and the archeology and people who with honor study and discover valuable treasures to share with the world.

Rowden Gray is a Sinologist, and while in San Fransisco, goes to his mentor and professor, John Battle's offices.
He meets Nick Battle, one of the most delightful characters written, who is John Battle's son (one of them). His partner is a delightful head drag queen in a club, Simone.

Nick has access to one of Battle's top discoveries, the Jade Owl, a magnificent little owl with powers that mortals can only imagine.

Soon, Rowden, Nick, and his band of China Hands go on series of journies to China, Italy, etc. for that little owl. Nicky Battle gets 'bonded' with the little owl, and he disappears, and becomes part of the Destroyer.

In the fifth book of the series, all China Hands have gathered together to hopefully save Nicky. This is a meteoric book - going in speed of sound action. It melds dimensions, times, legendary characters, the terra cotta army, and literally all heck breaks loose! Mr. Patterson leads us into the best adventure of them all - Do the China Hands live? What happens to the characters we have come to love and be protective of?

To describe the ending, what would not do it justice.

Like the rest of the Jade Owl series, this one is filled with adventure and magicial mystery. The five China Hands have grown to a bigger band with the chi influencing many friends. All are needed to help save the "day" and all do there jobs. Of course a few villains come into play. Audrey finally has a role to play( I've been waiting for her to take an active part). The ends comes with a few surprises and as we all can see, day is still here. This is one series I have really enjoyed and can recommend to all.

Just finished reading this fifth and final book of the series and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the full force of the Jade Owl series. I couldn't stop reading from book to book until I was finished. This series is a must read in my opinion.

This book was a great wrap-up to this series of wonderful reads! Knowing that it was the final book made me want to read more slowly and make it last longer, but at the same time, I could not put it down because so many things were happening and there was so much excitement that I just HAD to continue. WOW!

Thanks so much Ed, we, your fans want to tell you that your writing keeps us going late into the night.

Ed is also finally learning how to use the 2 words "past" and "passed" - I only noticed 2 distracting errors in this latest book. Keep studying their use Ed.
