Donna's best work yet!

Galen's character is not new to us. We met him in the previous books, laughed at the antics of his fellow warriors and druids teasing him about his "endless" stomach. However, there is more than meets the eye with him, ones we never understood until his book. Though his past is harsh yet differs from the others.

Reaghan is the perfect "fit" for him. She may not be a warrior like Larena from Dangerous Highlander but nor is she the whimpy, whiny heroine (which I can not stand such heroines.) She is a good mixture and knows when to fight for what she wants, not easily swayed or misdirected as she proves in the book.

New players are introduced that makes your mouth water and get ancy to learn what happens next in the story line.

Simply can not gush enough about this book or stop behaving like a total fangirl. Those who have a druid fetish or simply love druids and Highlanders would love this book. Also, this is for those who like the beautiful, harmonic blending of paranormal with historical, melding the two genres until you simply thought they always went hand to hand.

In 1603 Galen, the Druid-created Highlander warrior is sent to an isolated Scottish loch to find a key powerful artifact that should enable the Castle McLeod forces to defeat their enemy Deirdre, the evil Druid. There instead of the arcane relic he came to retrieve, Galen meets Reaghan the Druid without any magical power.

Both are stunned by their immediate attraction to one another. She and her villagers join Galen as he returns to Castle MacLeod to help defend the Druids from Deidre's malevolent assaults. Her horde attacks the travelers severely injuring Reaghan, the focus of the assault. As Reaghan heals and she and Galen fall in love, they will learn the dark powerful reason Deirdre wants her captive.

The latest Dark Sword historical romantic fantasy (see Untamed Highlander, Dangerous Highlander and Wicked Highlander) is a terrific tale that deftly merges early seventeenth century Highlander tidbits inside of Donna Grant's Druid mythos. The story line is fast-paced but driven by the lead protagonists and their dangerous adversary. Readers will enjoy this strong thriller as Galen and fans wonder if love can overcome insidious evil.

"Your magic is very strong. You just don't know it yet," Galen, the warrior with a god trapped inside him, said when he first met the druid, Reaghan. Reaghan's magic proves so strong it breaks through Galen's heart and he falls in love with her.

I haven't read the entire series but I have read one book in the series before, Wicked Highlander. The series storyline is that when the Scotts fought and tried to defeat the Romans, the druids summoned the ancient gods from the pits of hell, god so vicious the devil himself imprisoned hem. These god possessed the bodies of the strongest warrior of each clan, becoming one with them. So the warriors are all immortal and each one has a special power. Galen's is mind-reading and mind-control. The evil villain in the series is Deidre and wicked druid who has great powers. Galen and the other warriors thought they killed Deidre but she's still alive she just doesn't have a body, she needs to capture a druid so she can posses their body.

I feel obligated to point out that dead spirits possessing bodies does fit the ancient Celtic belief system. But they had no belief in hell or the devil. The premise does not fit the ancient Celts and there really isn't' anything Scottish, Celtic, or Pict about this book. She places them in kilts, she uses Clan names and she throws doona into the dialogue now and then. If you like romance books set in Scotland with men in kilts, you'll enjoy this. If you like books that draw from true Scottish history or true Celtic myth or the Druid belief system you may cringe a bit.

However...It's a well written, fast action adventure with strong, appealing characters and sensuous love scenes. I enjoyed reading it.

Donna Grant is in my top 5 authors. If you have read any past history they are possessive, romantic, but the evil Deidre has turned their God's free in them. They
fight against the evil Drough/Deidre but they too only love once and want children.
Pamela Palmer is right next to her.I am a hopeless romantic and I was taught there
will be only "one"that will make your heart pitty pat and these ladies agree with me.
I love you both!!!

This book was amazing. I have been learning about Galen for some time now and have always wondered what was going on with him. Well I found out and it all makes perfect sense now. When he meets Rheagan he knows immediately that he is attracted to her and she feels the same way. He is very reluctant to be with her because of his "gift" but he cannot fight the attraction any longer. When he finally does give in, he is given a very pleasant surprise.

Rheagan is a character that I grew to love. She is strong and vibrant. She knows she is "missing" something but can't figure it out and yet she keeps living her life to it's fullest every day. She is kind and compassionate and turns into a very determined women. You can feel the need and passion just from reading the story.

What I loved most about this book is they didn't fight the attraction. They knew what they wanted and they took it. Instead of most of the story being about them getting together it was more about the big picture. I really liked that.

The story line was unique and intriguing and it kept me sucked in the whole time. Past and future characters all made appearances but it never took from the main ones, just enough to give you a glimpse of what is going on with them and where they are in their lives. There was a very good balance of passion, romance, suspense, and sadness that kept the book well rounded and complete. Ms Grant leaves you chomping at the bit for the next in the series. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a fantastic read.
