3.0 out of 5 stars A good mystery for any horse lover
Jas, a kind and fun loving young equestrian lover, was well aware that she had no chance winning a course case against Hugh Robicheaux. After all, he had all the money and the power. She had attacked him, and to the jury, for no apparent reason. But both Hugh and Jas know that she had all the reason in the world, he killed her horse.

This is a great book! It starts where Jas is waiting to see a judge for assaulting a rich horse owner who killed the horse she loved, Whirlwind. The horse owner, Hugh, claims Jas's grandfather accidentally poisoned the horse, but Jas knows that is not possible. Jas is sentenced to live under a kind of 'house arrest' on Second Chance Farm, a place where abused and neglected animals of all kinds are brought, cared for, and adopted out. Jas secretly collects clues as to how and why Hugh killed Whirlwind, whether he has killed before, and how she can prove it. In the meanwhile, she also takes care of and trains a large but sick horse bought at a 'meat auction,' begins to ride again, and comes to trust other people in her life. The story is well-written, fast-paced, poignant, and funny at times, and full of fascinating details about the juvenile system and about horses in general. Buy this book for yourself or the horse- or mystery-lover in your life!

5.0 out of 5 stars The horse in the Shadows, July 23, 2000
A Kid's Review
The book shadow horse was an adventure to read. Alison Hart combined two of my fav. subjects, horses, and mystery. Often times I would find myself feeling as though I were in the book. With each horse that was sick or was killed it didn't just hurt Jas (one from book), it also hurt me. This story is amazing the way that it paints pictures in your head and it's as if you are there doing everything she is. This story about a lost horse and a lost soul is one of the greatest books I have ever read. I reccomend it to anyone.

Shadow Horse is about a 13 year old girl named Jasmine (Jas) who is sent to live in a foster home at Second Chance Farm after she assaults the owner of a horse farm. Jas becomes friends with Chase, a young boy who helps out a Second Chance. Together they become determined to figure out if Jas' new horse is a look-alike for the one who was poisoned for insurance money.

Overall, this is an excellent book for horse and mystery lovers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shadow Horse, December 29, 2000
A Kid's Review
This book is great. It is so greaat that I finished it in only two days because I couldn't put it down. And now I'm bummed cause the next one doesnt come out until March 2001. I also felt that this story connected with me. I have a horse that I feel that I got him for a reason. Like Shadow he proved his love by being willing to learn. He tought me how to ride, including 6 throws in 1 year. Although they were mainly my fault, but that isnt what we are talking about. This book should be read by all horse lovers, and people who just love a good book! I hope the wait for the sequel doesnt kill me!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book you can imagen, June 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Shadow Horse (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is about a girl named Jas who assaulted the owner of her favorite horse after it dies. Jas knows that Hugh(the owner) poisoned Whirlwind(the horse), but he has the power to shift all the blame to her grandfather. Now Jas has to live with a foster parent on the Second Chance farm. She is determined to prove that Hugh poisoned Whirlwind, and when she rescues a mysterious horse, she knows that somehow that horse is connected to Whirlwind's death. This book is absolutley amazing, and I couldn't put it down. The ending is dissapointing because it leaves the mystery half solved. I wouldn't read it unless there is a sequel coming out.

While at a auction, Jas has Ms.Hahn(her foster mom) purchase a neglected horse named Shadow.Soon Jas begins to realize that Shadow's description matches that of Aladdin another horse at High Meadows Farm who is rumored to be dead. Are Aladdin and Shadow the same horse? Are Whirlwind and Aladdin really dead? to find out READ THIS BOOK!

I loved Shadow Horse, by Alison Hart. I have never read any books of hers before but I instantly fell in love with it. Jas seems so real and you can imagine exactly what she's doing and feeling. Alison Hart has become one of my favorite authors. And, although I'm not much of a mystery fan, the book was great. :)

I read this book a really long time ago, and i only just got around to reviewing it. Anyway, there's this girl named Jasmine (Jas) and she is totally nice, nonviolent (cough) person. At least she used to be nonviolent.
One day, after finding her favorite horse, whirlwind, dead, she attacked Hugh Robicheaux, the owner of the horse farm she lived on, because she belived that he killed whirlwind. she has to go on trial, and of course hugh wins. so she ends up in a foster care situation at a place called second chance farm. her guardian, miss hahn (also the owner of second chance farm), seems to have a few secrets of her own in her past. Jas doesn't really trust her at first.
so basically, the story is about jas finding this sick horse at an auction, caring for it, and discovering that he (the horse) is somehow connected to whirlwind's death. jas and her new friend chase have to do some secret (or so they thought) trespassing and spying to find out the truth about what happened to whirlwind.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good mystery for any horse lover, February 2, 2007
A Kid's Review

Jas, a kind and fun loving young equestrian lover, was well aware that she had no chance winning a course case against Hugh Robicheaux. After all, he had all the money and the power. She had attacked him, and to the jury, for no apparent reason. But both Hugh and Jas know that she had all the reason in the world, he killed her horse.

Jas is sentenced to two months on house arrest at a small farm for abused animals. She knows that somehow this farm ties into the killing of her beloved horse and she is determined to find proof. Little does she know she will find all that and more! Now the only question is, can she go up against the richest guy in Virginia State, Hugh Robicheaux?

Filled with twist and turns and not to mention amazing passages "Shadow Horse" kept me reading until I turned the last page. This book is meant for younger readers and preteens,(those who are older may find it juvenile). Though the ending was somewhat of a disappointment for me the "Shadow Horse" is a great book for young horse lovers and mystery lovers alike.
