4.0 out of 5 stars Well drawn, kinky, explicit graphic novel., May 18, 1999
This review is from: Shadow and Light: Volume Two (Shadow & Light) (Paperback)
Both my fiance and I enjoyed this well drawn, erotically charged graphic novel. Containing several separate stories, this book has something to arouse both males and females. Realistic watercolor and graphite b&w images depict a variety of sexual scenarios definately on the kinky side. As an artist myself, I can appreciate the skill and time that must have gone into this book. As a sexual being, I responded to the eroticism. (v.2 has been published as well)

This review is from: Shadow and Light: Volume Two (Shadow & Light) (Paperback)
The two stories in this slim book continue Quinn's remarkable exercise in adult visual storytelling. In fact, the first one continues a piece from volume 1 of the series, promising a longer development of the same characters and plot. The second story in this volume differs from others so far: it adds a second woman to center stage, but takes away some of the consensual tone of earlier stories.

The memorable realism of Quinn's first volume is still here. That includes realistic plots, without exotic costumes, locales, or paraphenalia. It also includes the elegant, naturalistic style of his pencil drawing. Because his figures and scenes are generally so credible, they seduce the viewer into suspension of disbelief when emphasis requires minor exaggerations of anatomy. One improvement in this book over the first is that it contains only two stories, down from three, while keeping the same page count. That gives more room for each story to develop and avoids the rushed pace I found in the first volume.

If you're an adult and wish to be entertained accordingly, this has my highest recommendation. It's juicy and literate. And, although there are some harsh moments, there's none of the violence or aggression that puts off so many readers.

I simply love all of the volumes in this series. Obviously, you need to be this kind of kink, but if you are I can only say that I found the stories and the imagery erotic. I have purchased a wide variety of literature on my kind of sexuality, and these books are some of the few I have kept.
