5.0 out of 5 stars This Sequel Doesn't Disappoint!
My goodness I have waited for the sequel to Walk of the Spirits for who knows how long! Honestly? The wait was worth it. If I enjoyed the first book then let me just say that the second book floored me. Etienne and Miranda's bond gets stronger and made me wish I could find a man like him! The mystery behind Belle Chandelle tears at your heart and makes you wish that it...

3.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating ghost story mixed with romantic tension
I give this book 3.5 stars.
I first saw this book mentioned on The Story Siren's blog and it grabbed my attention so I was happy when I just happen to wander into the YA section of my library and there it was. I did not realize this was the second book in what I guess will be a series following Miranda. So I may be missing some nuances in the character...

My goodness I have waited for the sequel to Walk of the Spirits for who knows how long! Honestly? The wait was worth it. If I enjoyed the first book then let me just say that the second book floored me. Etienne and Miranda's bond gets stronger and made me wish I could find a man like him! The mystery behind Belle Chandelle tears at your heart and makes you wish that it would end, but at the same time you can't get enough. I sincerely hope that RTC will be able to continue this. I haven't been able to find any other book like this and I'm wishing I hadn't read Shadow Mirror so that I could read it for the first time over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of drama to make you squeal, March 28, 2010
This review is from: Shadow Mirror (Paperback)
I loved this second book in the series. The romance got steamier and the love triangle between Gage, Miranda and Etienne becomes even more apparent as the two vie for her attentions. Personally i am rooting for Etienne even tho Gage is a total sweetie.Cause,Etienne is so HOT. He gives out this smooth mysterious bad boy yet vulnerable deep down vibe that chicks dig. Im pretty sure the author is Miranda lean towards him more than Gage. There's not as much development between Miranda and Gage compared to the bond she has with Etienne. Oh and Parker becomes a very interesting character, i cant wait for the next book to find out more about him. This book was so drama packed i couldn't help but squeal out loud during the very juicy parts. Its the right kind of drama =)!

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Review: LibraryLoungeLizard.com, March 23, 2010
This review is from: Shadow Mirror (Paperback)
This book is a follow up to Walk of the Spirits in what I'm assuming is at the very least a trilogy because the ending in this one definitely leaves the door open for a lot more when Miranda learns a deep dark secret that could change the lives of everyone around her.

I didn't read the first book but the author does a great job of dropping tidbits of information here and there about the back story to get you up to speed. I enjoyed this book enough that I will probably go back and read the first too :)

Miranda's "gift" of seeing ghosts was passed down to her from a grandfather she barely knew. When her Mom gets a job helping to restore a local plantation, Belle Chandelle, Miranda is drawn to it and its ghostly past. When she hears ghostly cries for help from children in the attic she knows she has to find out more.

Meanwhile, Miranda is also torn between Gage and Etienne...she has feelings for both of them but is having a hard time figuring out how they feel about her. She is also seems to be caught in the middle of spat between her friends Ashely and Parker when a guy that Ashely is tutoring asks Ashely out on date. Parker and Ashely are both Miranda's friends so what happens if Ashely's feelings about Parker are changing and she chooses somebody else?

Not to mention the fact that Miranda has a sneaking suspicion that despite all Parker's complaining about her "gift" and how creepy it is, he may have some secrets of his own.

I really enjoyed this mystery/ghost story/romance read and I loved the southern setting. If you didn't know I'm a sucker for ghost stories set in the south ya'll :) After reading this book I was definitely interested in reading some of the authors other stuff so I went to her website and I found a lot of great sounding books!

Miranda and the gang are back for more ghosts, mysteries, romance and trouble. Miranda's mother and Aunt Teeta are renovating the old, haunted house, Belle Chandelle. As soon as Miranda gets near the house, her senses are assulted by the present and the past. When Miranda is inside the house she hears children, and when she looks into mirrors, she does not see herself- but some other woman.

The whole book centers around the mystery of who the children and woman are, and how Miranda is supposed to help them. Besides the ghostly aspects, the readers see the struggle over Miranda's feelings for Etienne and Gage (personally, I like Etienne better and Miranda and Etienne have so much chemistry together!) and her struggle with her new "gift". The readers also learn a shocking secret about Etienne's mother. Shadow Mirror is even better than Walk of the Spirits!

One negative thing I have to say about this book is that Miranda seems to "violently shiver/shake" a lot, it is acutally kind of ridiculous. It's like- "She saw a green car, and began to shake violently." or "A bee flew by her face, and she began to shiver violently." LOL! The author may have infused a bit more drama in the book than I like, but it was still a great book! I read it in one night, I couldn't stop turning the pages! If romance, humor and ghosts are your thing, you should read this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating ghost story mixed with romantic tension, May 7, 2010
This review is from: Shadow Mirror (Paperback)
I give this book 3.5 stars.
I first saw this book mentioned on The Story Siren's blog and it grabbed my attention so I was happy when I just happen to wander into the YA section of my library and there it was. I did not realize this was the second book in what I guess will be a series following Miranda. So I may be missing some nuances in the character interactions that developed in the first book. Still I really enjoyed it and didn't have much trouble following the story. Miranda's ability was fascinating and although I never actually watched the show it reminded me of the glimpses I've seen of The Ghost Whisperer. Ghosts who need help seek Miranda out but this is a new ability that she hasn't quite figured out how to control. The only people who know about her ability is a small group of friends including two handsome cousins, Etienne and Gage. I'm always a sucker for romance and I was wondering which cousin she would end up with at the end of the story. I loved both Etienne and Gage but Etienne definitely had an edge in my opinion due to his Cajun drawl. The way he spoke reminded me of the X-Man, Gambit, my all time favorite X-Men character. The story of the ghosts Miranda needed to help really broke my heart and I have to admit at one point I actually shed some tears. If you are into ghost stories mixed in with a little romantic tension this is a good one to pick up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first book!, March 26, 2010
This review is from: Shadow Mirror (Paperback)
Well, well, Ms. Cusick!
You've outdone yourself with this INTELLIGENT piece of work.
Unlike other "YA" novels, the romance is realistic, the danger is routed in historical accuracy and well, it doesn't have any sparkling characters.

It's incredibly persuading in the way it is written - which led this loyal reader to finish the book in one day.

It shows that Ms. Cusick is an esteemed writer, and not some flash in the pan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first book, June 13, 2011
This review is from: Shadow Mirror (Paperback)
I had a hard time putting this book down!!! I read it two times to make sure I didn't miss anything since I read it so quickly the first time. I love all of the characters in this book and find them to be well written and very likable. The plot is well developed and very original. In this sequel to Walk of the Spirits, Miranda's struggle to handle her gifts continue as she visits Belle Chandelle, the very old and haunted plantation house that her mother is responsible for refurbishing. Things are getting dangerous for Miranda as the barriers between her and the spirits seem to be getting thinner. As Miranda struggles with the new ghosts; she also struggles to choose between sweet and handsome Gage and his equally handsome but much more mysterious cousin Etienne. The theme of this book seems to be choosing between the familiar and the unknown; whether it be in life or in her love life. Shadow Mirror leaves us ending with the hopes of a third book. A book that will (probably) be about secrets; as this book ends with us uncovering several major secrets and pondering a few more that need to be uncovered.
