- Michael Dirda, Washington Post

An award-winning, best-selling novelist, Ruth Glick is the author of over 100 books. Writing as Rebecca York, she has authored or co-authored over 50 romantic suspense novels. The first of her Berkley Sensation paranormal romantic suspense novels, KILLING MOON, was published in June 2003; EDGE OF THE MOON followed in August 2003 and WITCHING MOON in October 2003. KILLING MOON and EDGE OF THE MOON were launch books for the Berkley Sensation imprint.

She writes the popular 43 Light Street series for Harlequin Intrigue. Over 30 Light Street Intrigues have been published. NOWHERE MAN was called "one of the most heart-wrenching, moving works of romantic suspense in several years," by reviewer Harriet Klausner.

Ruth's many awards include two Rita finalist books. She has two Career Achievement awards from Romantic Times: for Series Romantic Suspense and Series Romantic Mystery. NOWHERE MAN was the Romantic Times Best Intrigue of 1998, and the book has been selected as one of their Reviewers' "all-time favorite 400 romances." In addition, she received the 1998 Affaire de Coeur's Critics Choice Award for Best Contemporary Novel, also for NOWHERE MAN. Ruth's book, KILLING MOON won the 2003 New Jersey Romance Writers Golden Leaf Award for best Paranormal. AMANDA'S CHILD won the 2001 Golden Leaf Award for Long Contemporary and was nominated for Best Intrigue of 2000 by Romantic Times. Ruth's cookbook, 100% PLEASURE, was picked by USA Today as one of the 12 best cookbooks of 1994; her FABULOUS LO-CARB CUISINE was a finalist for the MidAtlantic Publishers Association's Excellence in Independent Publishing Award.

Several of Ruth's Moon books (WITCHING MOON, SHADOW OF THE MOON, and NEW MOON) have been on the USA Today best-seller list.

Ruth and her husband travel frequently to research settings for novels and taste new dishes for cookbooks. Her many unique experiences are apt to end up in her books--like the time she encountered a coral snake in the Guatemalan jungle or took a flight in a hot air balloon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Steamy, June 16, 2006
This review is from: Shadow of the Moon (The Moon Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Savannah Carpenter is an artist, but painting is definitely not currently on her mind. Savannah is trying to understand what happened to her sister, Charlotte. Charlotte is in a coma and Savannah is at her bed side every moment she is allowed by the hospital staff. Charlotte had been found in Rock Creek Park. Some say she fell off an outcropping of rocks. Others say she tried to kill herself. But Savannah cannot help but wonder if someone pushed her over the cliff. Savannah's only real clues were some matchbook covers from the Eighteenth Club and Charlotte's journal. Even though Savannah knows she should not read the diary, she consoled herself with the fact that she was searching for clues. In truth, it was the steamy content that enthralled her. She had no idea Charlotte was into such fantasies or that the Eighteenth Club let people act those dark desires out.

Lance Marshall is a werewolf. Being able to shift into canine form has helped him get stories that other journalists could not. After all, a big stray dog could not understand English, right? Lance was currently interested in the Eighteenth Club and its owner, Raymond Conrad. However, while scoping out the club he spies Savannah sneaking about, taking pictures of the top brass entering the establishment. Risky! Especially since some who enter the club never exit alive. He ends up rescuing her from a guard and then begins hunting her for his own reasons.

**** This is a steamy paranormal romance. If you do not like explicit bedroom scenes and hot fantasies, stay away. If you love those scenes (or could care less if they are there or not), then this is right up your alley. The author gives her readers danger, shape-shifters, and hot romance. The best of everything. Brava. ****

4.0 out of 5 stars Everything but the kitchen sink--is it really necessary?, June 9, 2006
By
This review is from: Shadow of the Moon (The Moon Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
This author writes a strong series of paranormal books dealing with werewolves, but more importantly the relationships these creatures have with each other and their mates. Each book stands alone and this is one of the weaker ones in the series. It's mostlybecause we got a whole lotta--stuff--tucked into one little story. A great love story with two strong interesting leads, plus good secondary love story with folks you grow to care about then add the arrival of the families from the other books and that could be enough. Let's add another layer with the disappearance of a beloved sister, then the discovery of a secret sex club, plus the training of each lead in a little lite BDSM, and finally throw in a paranormal villian from--I don't know-- a parallel dimension who has telepathic powers and feeds off strong human emotions? It works out OK and I did learn a new use for plastic wrap other than preserving last night's dinner but it felt messy. Don't hurry on this one--it's just OK.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent paranormal romantic suspense, June 7, 2006
This review is from: Shadow of the Moon (The Moon Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
The DC police inform artist Savannah Carpenter that they believe her sister Charlotte accidentally fell off rocks at Rock Creek Park leading to her being at George Washington University Hospital in a coma. Savannah thinks otherwise as she feels someone pushed her sibling who was looking into strange happenings at Club Eighteen better known as the Castle by its rich S&M patrons.

When the Castle's guards see Savannah taking photos of their clients, they go after her, but a large wolf rescues her. Investigative reporter Lance Marshall offers to team up with Savannah as he senses a story that could help her learn what happened to Charlotte. She agrees. They enter the club albeit to have fun, but also to obtain the truth. However, like the Hotel California it is easy to enter, but impossible to leave.

The York werewolf moon novels contains several excellent paranormal romantic suspense tales (see CRIMSON MOON), but SHADOW OF THE MOON may be the best of the series so far. The action-packed story line is fast-paced and filled with sexual tension accentuated by the danger that the audience will taste as if we have the enhanced sense of a werewolf. The lead couple is a delightful pairing as they investigate the goings on at the club, what happened to Charlotte, and the attraction between them in a gripping thriller.
