About the Author
Terry C. Johnston was born on the first day of 1947 on the plains of Kansas, and has lived all his life in the American West. His first novel, Carry the Wind, won the Medicine Pipe Bearer's Award from the Western Writers of America, and his subsequent books have appeared on bestseller lists throughout the country. He lives and writes in Big Sky country near Billings, Montana.

Plainsmen series,

Another great book written by Terry. He hasn't lost his touch and keeps the series going strong. The book starts off a little slow but as always he takes you on an adventure of the Indian Wars, this time it's Fort Sill, OK that is being featured. The setting is in the plains of Texas and Oklahoma area. Seamus is back and partering with Jack Stilwill. Once you start you won't be able to stop in the middle of one of the best series of all time, if you like books in this time era. Enjoy!!

The gist of Terry C. Johnston's historical novel is the story of the buffalo hunters and how they disrupted the Indians' way of life by wanton slaughtering of the buffalo on the southern plains. By destroying the source of the red man's sustenance for food, clothing and shelter, the author correctly notes that the hide men did more to weaken the resistance of the warlike tribes that roamed the Texas and Oklahoma plains than did the military on their punitive expeditions. Frontier heroes Billy Dixon and Jack Stillwell are main figures in the story and are joined by the fictional character Seamus Donegan, who serves as a scout for the army. The soldiers engage in hit-and-run battles with the Indians who have terrorized settlers throughout the territory. These events set the stage for "Dying Thunder", the next book in the series that covers two major battles in 1874-75.
