Now for the first time since she visited Planet Popular does she feel special. Drew (the 10!) is interested in her and she actually got a prize part in the school play. It seems too good to be true. And according to Hayden it is. Hayden warns Roxie that Drew is a shadow, but she doesn't believe him and he is acting weird anyway. But things are not regular or normal in any way. When Drew tells Roxie that they are both Halloween Babies. As to what that means, well I will let you find out. But what I can tell you is that Roxie learns she has a calling. She is a shadow slayer and has a job to do on her 14th birthday.
I wasn't sure throughout the entire book who was a good guy and who wasn't. There is so much suspense and intrigue. And top it all off with your typical teenage drama makes this book awesome. It is written towards the younger set (11-14) but can be read and enjoyed by all. If I had to compare it to anything I would say it is similar to The Forbidden Game by L.J. Smith mixed with a little Buffy slayerness - but without the vampires.
The Shadow Series is fantastic. I found the characters funny and reminscenct of my high school friends. And while there are some silly things like the name "Planet Popular" the story is not light.Read more ›
Shadow Slayer is the 2nd book in the series by author Laura A.H. Elliot.
We meet Roxie, a thirteen and a half year old girl who is entering her freshman year at Oakdale High School. Roxie just wants a boring year where she won't have to worry about life and death, or obsess about peacock's (popular girls) or popularity. What will await Roxie when she enters into this whole new world?
Soon after entering high school it seems like everyone is turning on Roxie, including her best friend Ally. Why is everyone acting funny towards her and what did she do?
Roxie finds out about the school play that is casting and she decides that this would be a great way to meet new people in this big school. She doesn't think she has a chance to nail the part but she sure wants to try. There is also a guy name Drew who is trying out for the play as well and when Roxie sees him she finally knows that ten's really do exist. Tens are the rarest of animals. She didn't think they existed, but they do! Drew is proof. He is a very hot older guy and Roxie is immediately attracted to him. This just makes Roxie want the part even more, so she can spend more time with Drew the ten.
For the first time in Roxie's life everything is going right. She is with a ten and Drew asked her to her first homecoming dance. But nothing can stay so good, can it? She knows something has to go wrong.
Drew tells Roxie that she is the Shadow Slayer. On their thirteenth birthday they get The Call, and by their fourteenth you find out what The Call is. Drew and Roxie are Halloween babies. You're asking your self just what that means, aren't you?Read more ›
She still wants to go back to Planet Popular to discover the mystery of the map; but, it seems that all is not right on Planet Earth. Her friends are acting strange and her "perfect ten" boyfriend, Drew, is almost to good to be true.
The shadows from Planet Popular want to be human more than anything and they are trying to take over Roxie's classmates. It will be up to her to slay the shadow on her 14th birthday - Halloween.
I love Roxie's character. She's matured since the last book but is still caught up in all the drama of starting high school and trying to fit in. Elliott has made her a very believable young woman that anyone can relate to. The mystery of what is happening to her classmates is well developed.
This is a very engaging YA series and I can't wait to find out what happens to Roxie next!
4 stars - Kate Farrell, The Kindle Book Review

This story has action, but has romance all bundle so sweetly.
It would seem that Roxie has it all in the beginning, then it all changes. Her friends aren't what they used to be and things just seem different, but the one semi-constant is....Drew
Roxie is one unique girl, I have to give kudos to her character. I never would have pulled off being a freshman and managed "slayer" too.
She is my favorite by far...the typical teenager in love.
Drew's character is charming and you can tell the author had put more of a mystery about him. He was more old fashion, not your usual sixteen year old, opened car doors even kept up conversations on history. As if that happens now days...LOL
On opening night of the play......
The Battle begins and heads roll.......in the end though.......
an awesome Halloween read....Makes you double check all your friends to ensure they have their shadows...
