Book Description

SECOND BOOK IN THE SHADOW SERIES--UtopYACon 2013 Book Trailer of the Year Nominee (BOOK 1, 13 on HALLOWEEN, FREE!)
"It was a fast-paced read with a really gripping plot that unfolded like an onion! This book definitely makes it to the top of my list!"
"Phenomenal as a sequel and just as incredible as a stand alone."
"This one has it all: intrigue, action, romance."

Shadows will do anything to become human. You see their influence everyday. You say things you don't mean or do things that aren't like you.

As a freshman, Roxie just wants to fit in which is impossible because she barely runs into her friends at her huge high school. Adrianne's disappearance and Hayden's attention rock Roxie's world. But nothing rocks it like the most gorgeous guy at school, Drew. And nothing is more important to Roxie than astral projecting back to Planet Popular to solve the mystery of the map. But that changes when Drew invites Roxie to homecoming. Hayden warns her that something's wrong. Why would a guy like Drew like Roxie anyway? Drew must want something. Hayden's right. Drew is...different. Planet Popular was just the beginning. Part of a bigger world, the Shadow World. There's a war brewing between the world of humans and the world of shadows. When the shadow invasion begins at Roxie's high school, she'll not only fight for her life but the lives of her family and friends, when she discovers she's the Shadow Slayer, the one human who can save Earth from the shadow onslaught. But, Roxie can't even kill a spider. There's an evil English teacher, an enchanted play, a sword of Sandonian steel, a homecoming of horrors, and seven magic words too. Book 3 in the series coming this spring!

"The plot thickens in book 2, let me tell you!"
Now available as an audiobook!

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

I love writing about enchanted road trips, shadow worlds, and alien romance while eating lots of popcorn. I live in a tree house on the central California coast. After twenty-plus years as a freelance graphic designer/animator with clients including E! Entertainment Television and The Los Angeles Times, I crossed over into the world of publishing non-fiction and followed my heart to the world of fiction. You can find me on my blog Laurasmagicday.wordpress.com, on Facebook and @Laurawriting and on Goodreads too!

I'm the author of the Shadow Series & the Starjump Series. 13 on Halloween (Shadow Series #1) is about a girl who gets a birthday gift that's literally out of this world. I love this book because it takes a look at one girl's quest for popularity, no matter what the cost.  Shadow Slayer (Shadow Series #2), is my new release and is now available as an audiobook too.  I'm really excited about this book because Roxie is one year older and finds the agony of fitting in at high school nothing compared to saving the world from the shadow onslaught. Transfer Student (Starjump Series #1) is an intergalactic tale of beauty and the geek. This book is near and dear to me because it explores the greatest mystery in the galaxy--what do boys think about girls? And, vice-versa. Ashley & Rhoe solve this mystery by swapping lives. I'm the author of  a couple stand alone novels too. Winnemucca, a small-town fairy tale is inspired by my life-long love of a little-known town and my equal love of enchanted teenage road trips. I love this book because it's about Ginny awakening to her own intuition. The Seven Caves & Other Spine-Tingling Short Stories, is a compilation of my most popular ghost stories. Recently, a lost excerpt from Shadow Slayer has been featured in a paranormal romance anthology called Midnight Surrender.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book! March 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel to 13 on Halloween. It was so magical, you know? I would describe it as a modern day Alice in Wonderland meets Sleepy Hollow. That was the kind of feeling it gave me. I felt like I was taking a ride on a magic roundabout as I was reading (I even read it as I walked the dogs!), I was completely hooked. I love books that are a little spooky weird (in a totally awesome way!), if you know what I mean. It was unlike anything I've ever read... which is one of the reasons why I love Laura Elliot's books so much. You don't know what you're going to get... apart from a magical read, that is. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who can you trust? February 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Starting almost a year later from the first book 13 on Halloween, Roxie and Ally are now Freshman. Their first day of Oakdale High School to be precise. But now their friend Arrianne is gone and their is a freaky new girl and a boy that ranks as a 10 on the hottness scale. Not to mention that the old Enligh teacher is suddenly gone and a new definely non-teacher like guy with tattoos and long hair steps in. And to top it all of, Roxie suddenly has the urge to try out for the school play.

Now for the first time since she visited Planet Popular does she feel special. Drew (the 10!) is interested in her and she actually got a prize part in the school play. It seems too good to be true. And according to Hayden it is. Hayden warns Roxie that Drew is a shadow, but she doesn't believe him and he is acting weird anyway. But things are not regular or normal in any way. When Drew tells Roxie that they are both Halloween Babies. As to what that means, well I will let you find out. But what I can tell you is that Roxie learns she has a calling. She is a shadow slayer and has a job to do on her 14th birthday.

I wasn't sure throughout the entire book who was a good guy and who wasn't. There is so much suspense and intrigue. And top it all off with your typical teenage drama makes this book awesome. It is written towards the younger set (11-14) but can be read and enjoyed by all. If I had to compare it to anything I would say it is similar to The Forbidden Game by L.J. Smith mixed with a little Buffy slayerness - but without the vampires.

The Shadow Series is fantastic. I found the characters funny and reminscenct of my high school friends. And while there are some silly things like the name "Planet Popular" the story is not light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful sequel to 13 on Halloween November 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am very fond of 13 ON HALLOWEEN the first book in this series, so I was eager to give this one a try. It didn't disappoint. Phenomenal as a sequel and just as incredible as a standalone. Elliott really gets to the heart of being an early teen. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole ride. This one has it all: intrigue, action, romance. Highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars A YA Halloween Treat October 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"Shadow Slayer" is Book 2 of Laura A. H. Elliott's Shadow Series and it does not disappoint. We First met Roxie in "Thirteen on Halloween" when she astral-projected to Planet Popular. Now she's a high school freshman just trying to fit in to the new environment of high school.

She still wants to go back to Planet Popular to discover the mystery of the map; but, it seems that all is not right on Planet Earth. Her friends are acting strange and her "perfect ten" boyfriend, Drew, is almost to good to be true.

The shadows from Planet Popular want to be human more than anything and they are trying to take over Roxie's classmates. It will be up to her to slay the shadow on her 14th birthday - Halloween.

I love Roxie's character. She's matured since the last book but is still caught up in all the drama of starting high school and trying to fit in. Elliott has made her a very believable young woman that anyone can relate to. The mystery of what is happening to her classmates is well developed.

This is a very engaging YA series and I can't wait to find out what happens to Roxie next!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast Paced October 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"Shadow Slayer" is a fun fast paced YA novel with tons of action. Laura pens her characters lovable and believable in the second book of the series. You really need to read the first book in the series "13 on Halloween" before this book or you will be a bit lost. Recommended for all YA readers.
