3.0 out of 5 stars Better than Star Wars 32X, but not by much., October 2, 2009

Shadow Squadron is very similar to Star Wars for the 32X, however this time around players have 360 degree control of their ship. There are no texture mapped polygons, which allows the game to run fairly smoothly, at the expense of some rather bland looking objects. The sound is rather poor, and the Genesis stereo AV cables couldn't even save it. It does look ok, but you will be constantly reminded that you are playing it on a 32X just by watching it. The word mediocre comes to mind.

This game also goes by the name Stellar Assault, which seems to command quite a bit of money these days. I'll never understand why, although I did read that its rare. You shouldn't care however, because it is the same game. If you have a NTSC 32X, it can be had for under $12, and I certainly wouldn't pay any more for it. There weren't alot of games for it to begin with, and I suppose this is one of the better ones. It just isn't nearly as "Stellar" as its name may suggest.

One more note: Stellar Assault also saw life on the Sega Saturn, which sells for even more than the 32X version. Despite my Saturn ownership, I cannot comment on this port, as it runs for around $70 to $100 online, and I havn't bothered to purchase it yet.

I love games like this! This game is hard but if you like games like Star wars arcade, or Starblade you'll like this!
