Ever since I read the Last Herald Mage trilogy, I wanted to hear the songs based around Vanyel and the songs he sang (like My Lady's Eyes). I saw this on Amazon and was thrilled, then I saw the high prices of the used copies the sellers were selling. I was saddened, and didn't give up hope, and found it cheaper from the original publisher. Anyway, the review of the actual music. Heather Alexander has an amazing voice. I can just imagine her as a Bard in Valdemar singing about Vanyel hundreds of years after the trilogy and telling his tale. I purchased several more Herald's of Valdemar CDs and found them all to be great, but nothing is as good as this one. If you buy only one album based on Lackey's lyrics, buy this one.

This is a truly unique album, and not for the general music lover. Every song is based on The Last Herald-Mage Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey. All of the songs written by Lackey are amazing and add to her Valdemar series in a way book cannot. The only track I do not like is The herald's Creed. It's doesn't fit with the rest of the CD and is just plain annoying. This is a must have CD for any Mercedes Lackey fan, though don't listen to this if you don't want the end of the book spoiled.

This album brings the music from The Last Herald Mage trilogy alive. A trilogy in which music is so important to the culture of the characters, and which at the end has several pages of lyrics to the ballads and songs mentioned in the story - is brought to life. The style is medieval/bardic/folk and very true to how you would imagine the songs to be, from reading the books.

They cost $20, from the original fire-bird sellers. And I thought that was expensive!
I've been waiting for this CD to come to Amazon, ever since I read the Magic trilogy and learned that it had music to the songs in the back of the third book! But with prices at $100+, there's no way I'd buy it here!
Until the price is lowered to $20, or lower, I don't suggest -anyone- buy this here. A CD is not worth that much.

Aside from the highway robbery prices at the moment, the songs are really only for fans who have read the book, and not before! The songs are HUMONGOUS spoilers. Theses songs also grow on you. There are a few you won't like to listen to at first, but like fungus, they most certainly do grow on you! Most of the songs are sung by Heather Alexander. She's an amazing artist.

If you're a true fan of the Valdemar series, this is a must have! Just please, don't buy it for anything more then $20. It's robbery!
