Book Description

Gabriella’s past is a mystery, but that never stopped her from achieving her goals. As a Supernatural Specialist, and far more intelligent than anyone her age, she was always ignored by her peers. Because of the isolation she always felt, she put her life and soul into her job. Being a Supernatural Specialist hasn’t given her the divine intervention she always longed for, until one day a shipment arrives from Italy containing three dead bodies with an uncanny ability to regenerate. Gabriella is frightened and intrigued, but not as scared as she becomes when a dark creature attacks her.
As the bodies come back to life, the plot takes an unexpected twist that you won’t see coming. The supernatural world only begins to unfold before her as angels appear, her dreams start to haunt her, and the very past she has forgotten comes back with startling clarity. Romance blooms, escape plans are made, an assassin is out to kill her, and death is only around the corner. But what is more terrifying than all of this is the fact she is the chosen one, the Illuminator, the one who will save them all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok plot, some fresh ideas, terrible heroine March 8, 2012
By North
Format:Kindle Edition
Gabriella, adopted at five, does not remember her early childhood. Now 24, she has a brilliant mind, has sped through university and is now a supernatural specialist.

She starts to work on three bodies, carbon-dated dead for centuries and shipped from Italy. However, the bodies seem almost alive. Soon, Gabriella is faced with Shadows, Angels, Ladies of the light and Soul catchers. She learns that she is the Illuminator, the object of a prophesy and is sent weird dreams.

The plot is good and enough things happen to keep you reading. I liked the slant on angels and the story-line, from past to present is well done which is why I gave this two stars.

However, I really disliked the heroine. She cries a river of tears about every two pages. Real tears, golden tears, silver tears, it's never ending. She's so emotionally dependent on her guardian angel Andrew, that she has to hold his hand or cuddle in bed for most of the book. Wimpy does not even begin to describe her and yet, we're supposed to believe she's the Illuminator! Frankly, it was so bad I had to struggle to finish the book.

As for the romance, it's fit for a teenager. A lot of boy gazing, very subtle attraction, one kiss and they are soul-mates forever.

I will not bother with the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treat to read! January 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Reading Shadow of the Sun was an absolute treat. I wasn't sure what to expect when I sat down to read it, but once I began reading it, it was hard to put down. Seeing that Laura Kreitzer is a new author, I am pleased to see that it was in no way a disappointment. Laura creates wonderful characters and crafted an amazing world for them to interact in. I was impressed with the settings that the characters found themselves in, and was engaged in the fantastic backdrops and encounters. The characters Gabriella and Andrew were, in their own way, relatable and believable, and I found myself connecting to their emotions. Laura also demonstrated her storytelling powers by throwing in twists I did not expect and kept them believable to the story, which is a hard feat to accomplish for many authors.

I won't call Shadow of the Sun a relaxing read, only because there is far too much action to qualify for "relaxing", but it was a good change of pace for me while I was working through my college courses. It certainly can break up a drab routine, and can be a delightful escape. I look forward to reading the next in the Timeless series, and hope that I will see the same craftsmanship in Soul Stalker.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously? December 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't know what book these people are reviewing. Maybe we had different editions. This book drove me crazy! This is the first review I have EVER written because I can't believe all of the 5 star reviews that this book received. I agree with all of the negative reviews unfortunately.

My biggest problem was the inconsistency in this book. One second the main character would say "Hey let's let the police catch us!" then on the next page "I don't know how to police caught up with us! What are we going to do?!"

For being a genius she does the dumbest things...constantly. I tried to relate it to fact that maybe she doesn't have any life smarts BECAUSE she was a child genius but good God she's an idiot. Then suddenly she got super smart at figuring out how to escape from an FBI facility. What's more is that there were supposedly cameras all around but she was doing things that should have set off alarms if anyone were watching the cameras. *sigh*

The words that the author used were annoying. I didn't like the writing style at all. There were an excessive amount of weirdly worded analogy sentences. "My breath stopped as if it went on vacation." Huh? There was sooooooo many of those that could have been left out without changing the tone or meaning.

Totally implausible. I can't keep reading and that rarely happens. I made it to 73% on my Kindle but I can't do it anymore. I roll my eyes at every page turn. She needs a seriously good writing club that offers helpful critiques and ways for her to improve. The story was great the delivery just wasn't.

I tried. I really did. But it was really too boring for words. Nothing received the proper emphasis it deserved--every event shared the same amount of detail and description. Read more
