Book Description

On a dark Ozark highway, two souls meet in tragedy and find their lives are connected to things bigger than them both. Megan Crunk, a social worker from Joplin, uncovers vampires preying on a small community. That same day, she meets Garrett, a fascinating stranger who is clearly more than he seems.  But, as Meg slowly learns, so is she.

Garrett Terago is an ancient dragon. Until now, he's been content with the secluded Ozark mountains. Disguised as a human, but rarely paying them heed, until he meets Megan. He offers her love and protection from the vampires but can he keep her safe from his own kind? War looms between the dragons. Some long for a time lost to prehistory, when they were worshiped as gods, masters of the world. Somehow, Garrett is instrumental to their plans and Megan is in their way.

"The Shadow of Tiamat's twist ending left me wanting the next installment right away! 4.5 out of 5,"

Editorial Reviews

"The author not only gave us strong and resourceful characters that were both smart and funny, but the storyline as well ebbed and flowed to keep the reader involved and entangled throughout...and its twist ending left me wanting the next installment right away! 4 ½ tombstones out of 5," Bitten by books -
"This is a novel of love and war with an original hero, a classy heroine and reprehensible villains. The imagery is incredible, and the emotions evoked range from tenderness to rage. 4 and 1/2 stars," RT Book Reviews -

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It!!! December 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Shadow of Tiamat has shown me that Sean Poindexter it without a doubt a force to be reackoned with. The writing was amazing, the imagery incredible and the plot...well, let's just say I read it in two nights. The only thing I didn't like is that it ended.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Must Read This Book! December 13, 2011
By vinval
Format:Kindle Edition
I could not put this book down. I stayed awake all night to read it. This is one of the best books I have ever read! I can not wait until the next book in the series is available. The mythology of the dragons and vampires is GREAT (no sparkling crap), and every scene is easily visualized. It would be great to see this book turned into a movie. Lots of action, lots of sex, a great read!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting read! No kids stuff! December 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I am so excited to have finally found what I crave. Dragons, vampires, and more... without sparkling skin or a character list filled with teeny-boppers. I love that I was able to finally indulge in something a little (OK a lot) more adult without sacrificing content.
I am really no good at writing reviews, but I know what I like, and The Shadow of Tiamat I really, really like. I can't wait for more! The characters grew on me very quickly and I found something to relate to in every character. I love that the explanations for certain supernatural events or creatures were well thought out and very plausible, and not the same old generic thing.
The Shadow of Tiamat most certainly ranks up high as the newest book on my list of favorites and I simply cannot wait for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Total Package December 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I absolutely loved this book. Garrett is to die for. You get everything wrapped into one package with this book. Mystery, fighting, sex and even some comedy. I never knew which emotion I would be experiencing from one page to the next. It's a must read and one you won't be able to put down. Definitely one of the best dragon books I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars spitefully inspired December 18, 2012
By Claire
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you enjoy both fantasy and erotica, you will enjoy this book. Although the characters bash the "Twilight" books, the story seems to have have been somewhat spitefully inspired by the lack of sex, violence, three dimensional characters and healthy relationships in Meyer's books. The main focus of the story is romance, with hints of brewing trouble and battling mythical beasts.

Because it can be quite graphic, I wouldn't recommend this read for the faint of heart.

The Shadow of Tiamat is a fantastic novel revolving around a war between feuding Dragons. It is a book of not merely love and heartfelt joy, but a tale of vile, fiendish villains and a strong, original hero. Filled to the brink with battle and courage, this is the first tale in a much larger vision from author Sean T. Poindexter.

The characters in the story are well fleshed out, given many human-relatable characteristics to where the audience can even feel the same emotions as a dragon. The two heroes of the story are Garrett Terago and Megan Crunk, two unique individuals thrust together after a near-tragic collision. A meeting filled with humor, romance and lust. The villains, as well are well crafted, with each being uniquely mapped out for the reader in an original and detailed fashion, but I'll leave their descriptions out to leave you with some mystery.

PLOT: 10/10

Without ruining anything, this is a love story and a war novel. It is a great original piece of writing in a game-changing way as The Lord of the Rings was. Peaking my interest in reading and reigniting my joy for it after many years without being able to finish a book, this story is a grabber and it holds you until the end.

WRITING: 10/10

The mindset of the characters are well revealed to the reader and the writing is descriptive and informing. Beautifully written with great care and detail, Poindexter is a writer to look out for after this captivating and intriguing novel.

OVERALL: 10/10

The novel is filled with many elements for a mature audience to read. Those with a strong mind and grand humor will most enjoy this tale of war and love. The ultimate bests and worsts of our world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, an original and unique story!!! December 24, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
"The Shadow of Tiamat" is one of the most original pieces of work I have read in awhile. The story is complex and keeps you gripping the pages until the very end. I love the characters in this book. The author created these wonderful unique characters that are intriguing and deep. Every character provided an essential piece to the overall story that I couldn't imagine it without even one of them. The character of Meg was truly genius. I continually flipped the pages to see how her story developed. Garrett seemed like a dream come true. The way the dragons are introduced and expanded throughout the story was unbelievable. With the way most books are now, I expected a generic, already been done, revamped story of dragons. Nope, this book provides a truly one of a kind take on these beings. I absolutely love the descriptions in this book. I felt like I was actually seeing the action take place in front of my own eyes instead of on paper. The only thing better than the characters in this story is the action that takes place. I found it very difficult to pick a favorite part in this story. I'm waiting in anticipation for the next one. Come on Book 2!!!! I'm so excited!!!

More About the Author

Though born in Mesa, Arizona, Sean has spent most of his life in Missouri. He graduated high school in Lebanon, Missouri. His mother was a special education/reading teacher and his father was a police officer. Though they divorced when Sean was very young he remains close with both his parents. He has two brothers and no children, but he has a very large extended family in the Ozark region (Mountain View/West Plains Missouri region) and Southern Arizona (Eloy/Casa Grande area).

After high school, Sean attended college at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri for a time before dropping out and going to work for a TV station in Springfield, Missouri. After a time, he returned to college and graduated from Missouri Southern State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, minor in Philosophy. He holds a Master of Science in Criminology/Criminal Justice Administration from Pittsburg State University (Pittsburg, Kansas) in 2005.

After college, Sean naturally gravitated towards social work and investigative work, eventually settling with a job investigating allegations of abuse and neglect of disabled adults and seniors for the Missouri Department of Heath and Senior Services. Sean began working on the first book in the series in November of 2008, while still working full time for the State of Missouri. Though Sean has been writing most of his life, he claimed (as per his blog) that he did not consider writing professionally until he was inspired to do so by a terrible vampire movie. During the film, Sean amused himself by imagining the vampires being attacked by a dragon. Sean has remarked on his blog that he often does this when bored or annoyed with a film--though sometimes he uses Vikings, zombies, or Cthulhu in place of dragons.

His literary influences include H.P. Lovecraft, Anne Rice, Charlaine Harris, George R.R. Martin, Robert E. Howard, and R.A. Salvatore, among others. In addition to writing, Sean enjoys watching and reading science fiction, fantasy, horror, and thrillers. His hobbies include playing Xbox, fantasy role playing games and collecting firearms. Sean's background in sociology, criminology, and philosophy are heavy influences on his work, as well as his experience as an investigator (former) for the State of Missouri.
