5.0 out of 5 stars classic. March 22, 2004
Format:Audio CD
This to me is an underrated CD, it gets tagged with lounge but it truly is so much more. If I was going to create a label, it would be Southwestern Psychedelia. So that sounds really silly but heres the deal...FODM takes elements of jazz, country, Santo and Johnny (Sleepwalk is a good reference for this album),pop and more and puts it together beautifully. The band at this time featured John Convertino and Joey Burns of Calexico (Joey wrote some of the songs too). Listen to the tracks and youll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars this album is awesome April 17, 1999
Format:Audio CD
My cousin gave me this disc for Christmas a few years back and after a few listens I was hooked. At first, I didn't know about it but the music just grew on me in a way that I have never felt before. I then bought the second album by this band and loved it as well but this album takes the cake. I love the way the steel guitar replaces the vocals in "All the Pretty Little Horses." It's great. You'll love it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Friends" best album by far October 17, 2002
Format:Audio CD
This is a beautiful, haunting album of southwest soundscapes. It's the perfect record to play in the car while driving the lonely back roads of Arizona and New Mexico. The only other "Friends" album that comes close to this one, IMHO, is "Wichita Lineman."
A great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Middle of nowhere lounge August 13, 2013
Format:Audio CD
To put it simply: if there was a lounge in the outskirts of Tucson, Arizona, FODM would have to be it's house band and this album would be their playlist. This 'lounge' element I speak of shouldn't scare you off; it's intimate and sulky without the Vegas camp oozing like smelly maple syrup.

The key to the records lush vibe and tone is the slide guitar, or, to the point, the delicate use of it. It's upfront as the primary instrument, but it's also used far in the background as if to establish a sound scape floating in the background.

There are wonderful dramatic moments here, but it all goes down smooth. Smooth and rustic (?!) is as simply as I can state it. Plus the record/CD front and back covers works perfectly with the music.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a peach March 25, 2002

Is it lounge? Is it country? Either way it's as fine an album as you can ask for. Try playing it for that special "someone".It always worked for me.
