3.0 out of 5 stars Mysterious beginning, May 22, 2000
By A Customer
The background or history of the main story is almost half of the book and the main story starts with the amnesia victim in the battlefield. It kept me wondering about the main plot of the story until I reached the section about the amnesiac meeting with Hannah Rose. It's mysterious at first because of the unknown assassin which could have been cut shorter on how it'srelated with the amnesia victim who's the main character . The biblical passages are somehow enlightening and inspiring.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, rather interesting, March 12, 2002
By A Customer
It's been awhile since I read this book, but I do remember that the whole idea was rather interesting. A Civil War soldier loses his memory during a battle and winds up being cared for by a Southern family (a few women, actually, since all the men are off fighting!) This family naturally contains a beautiful young woman, Hannah Rose. She falls in love with the soldier, and he with her, but the slight obstacle in their relationship is his amnesia. Was he married? Engaged? And what side had he been fighting for, anyway? The soldier can recall nothing. (I must have amnesia, too, because I can't recall his name!- hence I shall call him "Soldier".) Soldier stays with the Southern family for quite some time, and in the end, he winds up being identified by some fellow soldiers, and goes back home to his parents and to get re-acquainted with his past. Will Soldier find out that he is free to marry Hannah Rose, or must he forget her?
That involves the main plot of the story. There are a few subplots that in my opinion get a little in the way of the main plot. First there is too much space given to the mysterious assassins at the fort, who are killing the officers. As the other reviewer stated, this subplot doesn't tie in with the main plot and distracts the reader. Another subplot deals with Hannah's sister, Linda Lee, and her very unwelcome suitor. This goes better with the main plot because Soldier becomes involved with trying to solve the problem, but on the other hand, the brute of a dumb ox suitor is too outlandish.
Overall this book is quite interesting, and if you like light romantic Christian fiction in general this would be a good one to pick.

This review is from: Shadowed Memories: Battle of Shiloh (Battles of Destiny #4) (Paperback)
What a heart-warming and exciting story, I couldn't put this book down. The old line you'll laugh, you'll cry definitely applies to this story, it's wonderful.
