Editorial Reviews

Sacha Sacket, whose second album, Shadowed, is as intriguing as it is melancholy and darkly introspective. The intrigue comes into play because of all the clever references in his lyrics -- for example, "Be my story of O" (a reference to the classic French S&M film/book) in "Cockatoo," and "you've grown weary of my Jeckyll and my Hyde" on the title song. But most listeners who hear this excellent sophomore effort probably won't notice Sacket's cleverness as much as they will notice all the sadness and disillusionment in his lyrics; Shadowed is a very dark album, and few rays of sunlight enter Sacket's adult alternative/folk-rock space. One influence who serves the Los Angeles resident pleasingly well is the late Nick Drake; Sacket gives the impression that he could easily recite all the lyrics to "River Man" if called upon to do so. And yet, Shadowed never sounds like it was recorded in the '70s -- not only is the production style more modern, but also, Sacket has no problem incorporating elements of Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan. That isn't to say that any of those direct or indirect influences ever obscure his individuality; Sacket is most certainly his own man, and he shows a great deal of promise on this compelling CD. 5.0 out of 5 stars Undiscovered Genius!, November 21, 2004
This review is from: Shadowed (Audio CD)
From start to finish, this cd will take your breath away. Sacha has a voice that is lined with poignancy and poetry. From the beginning chords of "The Prodigal" to the haunting ending of "Palestine" you will find yourself hooked like a junkie to his hopeless habit. Sacha takes you on a journey into the soul and heartbeat of the human heart. So much of this cd is filled with an addictive darkness. He speaks of a lover who inflicts physical pain on his lover but still the lover feels that is all that he deserves on the song "Cockatoo" . He speaks of unrequited love often on this cd but none are as powerful as "Cruel Attempt". The pain of this song will rip a tear out of your eye whether you want it to come out or not. He speaks of not forgiving another in " I Just Cant" and the feeling is so understandable as we have all been in that place. The joy and release of surfing on the ocean is displayed with poetic power on "Kite High" and in the song "Shadowed" Sacha tells the story of being in love with someone addicted to alcohol and all the insanity that goes with that kind of relationship. The viewpoint of the alcoholic is powerfully displayed especially in the haunting chorus that simply says .."Save yourself"...
A trip to Paris and finding love is told with wreckless abandon in the song "Paris and September". All I can say about this cd is that you need to have it in your collection. Sacha is genius and one who needs to be heard. If you like new things give this cd a try. You wont be sorry and you certainly will benefit. From start to finish this cd qualifies as one of the best of the year. You wont find it in your local record store so get it NOW and be ahead of the game. If anyone deserves recognition for this beautiful and perfect musical journey its certainly Sacha Sacket.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Remarkable Man & Artist..., March 17, 2005
This review is from: Shadowed (Audio CD)

Sacha Sacket's new 'Shadowed' album delves down into secret places the haunted tread. He sings of unrequited love (a popular theme throughout the disc), addiction, the dark places we all fall from time to time, and somehow, through the desperation and desolation, he lets you know that even still, he's a man who will no doubt emerge changed and better for it all. This is a lush and exquisite album, marked by his piano driven melodies and his gorgeous, anguised baritone. His voice on this album drips with something visceral, a real kind of pain. On the album's closer 'Palestine', when he sings "I don't have to be the white knight/I don't have to give the good advice/I don't have anything left to fight/It's true" with his beautifully wavering voice, it's as if he's seen too much, and just before throwing in the towel, he realizes he doesn't have the be the fighter anymore, but just accept whatever's coming his way. He's been called a "male Tori Amos" but I'd say (to me) he's more a "male Sarah McLachlan". But then, Sacha Sacket can really draw no true comparisons. He's his own man, and his own artist. It's a beautiful and bewildering world, but music like his makes it worthwhile. And we're all the better for listening...

Also, look for his debut, 'Alabaster Flesh' and visit his site for more information on him. www.sachasacket.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Permanent Fixture In My CD Player, June 14, 2005
This review is from: Shadowed (Audio CD)
I was caught in some horrendous traffic but it didn't matter because I had Shadowed to keep me company. I never tire of Sacha's soothing voice, insightful lyrics and gorgeous piano melodies. "The Prodigal" is a favorite of mine--Sacha's falsetto in the chorus is a perfect moment in music. I can be having an awful day but hearing that song always makes me feel relaxed.
