About the Author

Radclyffe is a two-time recipient of the Alice B. award for lesbian fiction and has written numerous best-selling lesbian romances (Safe Harbor and its sequel Beyond the Breakwater, Innocent Hearts, Love’s Melody Lost, Love’s Tender Warriors, Tomorrow’s Promise, Passion’s Bright Fury, Love’s Masquerade, shadowland, and Fated Love), as well as two romance/intrigue series: the Honor series (Above All, Honor, Honor Bound, Love & Honor, and Honor Guards) and the Justice series (Shield of Justice, the prequel A Matter of Trust, In Pursuit of Justice, and Justice in the Shadows). She lives with her partner, Lee, in Philadelphia, PA where she both writes and practices surgery full-time. She states, "I began reading lesbian fiction at the age of twelve when I found a copy of Ann Bannon’s Beebo Brinker. Not long after, I began collecting every book with lesbian content I could find. The new titles come much faster now than they did in the decades when a new book or two every year felt like a gift, but I still treasure every single one. These works are our history and our legacy, and I am proud to contribute in some small way to those archives."

Radclyffe, a retired surgeon and full time author-publisher, has published over thirty-five novels as well as dozens of short stories, has edited numerous anthologies, and, writing as L. L. Raand, has authored a paranormal romance series, The Midnight Hunters. She is a eight time Lambda Literary Award finalist in romance, mystery and erotica--winning in both romance (Distant Shores, Silent Thunder) and erotica (Erotic Interludes 2: Stolen Moments edited with Stacia Seaman and In Deep Waters 2: Cruising the Strip written with Karin Kallmaker). A member of the Saints and Sinners Literary Hall of Fame, she is also a 2010 RWA/FF&P Prism Award Winner for Secrets in the Stone, an Independent Publisher's award winner (IPPY), an Alice B. Readers' award Winner, and a finalist for the Benjamin Franklin award, the ForeWord Review Book of the Year award, and the 2010 Heart of Excellence Readers' Choice award. I have read everything Radclyffe has published and quite a lot of her unpublished fan fiction. This is by far the most daring and original story she has released.

This story does not follow the basic recipe of many books in the lesbian fiction genre. In fact, this reader has never read a book quite like this 'Shadowland.' Granted, just the fact that it is loaded with BDSM references and situations puts it in a category all its own. However, it's the underlying love story that grips the reader and envokes a myriad of emotions from anger to surprise to compassion and everything in between.

Radclyffe is a master with supporting characters and adding dimensionality to her books. This one is no exception. Brad, the ultimate top; Nancy, the unfulfilled wealthy housewife; Anne and Caroline, the most loyal of friends. Kyle is new to the BDSM scene and is a fast learner, but doesn't know how to react to Dane's need for emotional space. Dane has been burned and doesn't know how to let Kyle in.

I finished this book two days ago. It is still fresh on my mind and is continues to trigger an emotional response. I don't run across many books that do that.

Radclyffe's best. A top 10 in the genre. A must own for any collector of lesbian fiction.

I have read many of Radclyffe's works and I am a huge fan. Shadowland was dark, imaginative, sexy, heartbreaking, and fantastic. Radclyffe is phenomenal with imagery. Not a story for the weak but if you like living on the edge vicariously then you'll enjoy Shadowland. It heightens the senses and allows the reader to become part of the sexual adventure, a voyeur hidden in the shadows.

The first time I read Radclyffe's, shadowland, I thought "hmm, this is a little different for her", but when I read it again I was less inclined to think so. Yes, the exploration of sexual boundaries is unlike those in her other books, but the expression of trust, love, and offered vulnerablitiy are still there. There's just a different path to them. Of all Radclyffe's books, this one wars with only one other for first place in my heart.
