You can not put this book down, any spare time you have is definitely going to be spent reading this book. One word of caution: do not read "Shadowmaker" in bed at night. It's so good and so nerve-racking it made me sleep with the door open and the lights on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, January 27, 2001
By A Customer
This book was emotional and phyciological book which twisted and turned you. It starts that Katie hates living in Kluney so when she and Lana Jean go to the carnival things happen. A carnival worker is killed, then Lana Jean is murdered. Katie's confused and along with her mother's investigations she doesn't know what to do. Nixon takes the book from there and weaves you into a believable story that could happen. A very good book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Mystery Book, June 2, 2005
By
Gadi Singer (Cupertino, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Katie Gillian is a teenaged girl who moved to a little town in Texas with her mother. Katie was expecting to spend several months in a new school, with a few friends and little excitement. What she experienced instead was far from boring. This story includes crimes, murders, and adventures that are guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat. You are following Katie and her mother as they each solve a different mystery.

I loved the book and gave it five stars. The plot was great, and I could not put it down. I also liked the character Katie and the way she was real but also very brave. The author did a good job including surprises in many points in the story, and you only get to see the unexpected answer at the very end. "Shadowmaker" is an outstanding mystery book, and I highly recommend reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, February 19, 2002
A Kid's Review
I rate this book five stars because of its great mystery. The book is about a daughter and her mom. The mom was a journalist, she was the one who mostly started the mystery. One night Katie ( the daughter) heard some noises coming fom outside, she got out of bed to see who or what it was. If you want to know who or what it was read the book Shadowmaker. The part I like in the book is when Katie heard the noises because I like the temptation of wanting to know what will happen. What I didn't like is the book moved alone to slow.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best mystery of all times!, January 11, 2000
A mystery that you will not be able to put down. It is about a girl, Katie, who's mom wants to write a novel and moves from Houston to Texas. Katies mom is also a reporter for the newspaper. When they are all settled in at Houston, they notice people prowling around their yard at night. They call the police more than once and they are never able to catch the shadowmakers. One night, Katie gets news about her friend who was murdered. Who murdered Lana Jean? Read this to find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of best book she has ever written!!, October 19, 1999
By A Customer
I think the way that Joan captured the pain that Katie and her mom went through living in this town was as if she was really living through as if it were her.And how she was able to describe the boys mischief and what they did to torment everyone. And how she put detail into all the murders. Out of all the books she has ever written i think this is the best in detail and in realism.
