Biography

Link Wray may never get into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but his contribution to the language of rockin' guitar would still be a major one, even if he had never walked into another studio after cutting "Rumble." Quite simply, Link Wray invented the power chord, the major modus operandi of modern rock guitarists. Listen to any of the tracks he recorded between that landmark instrumental in 1958… Read more in Amazon's Link Wray Store

Editorial Reviews

With the roar of the opening track, "Rumble On the Docks," the 68-year-old rock & roll guitar legend proves he's back in a big way. Backed up by a spartan bass and drums rhythm section, Link comes to the plate here with nine new originals in his classic, abrasive style, along with covers of John Fogerty's "Run Through the Jungle," "Heartbreak Hotel" and Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)." On "Timewarp/Brain Damage," the recasts the old lick from "Rawhide" in a new speed metal version, and with an album split fairly evenly between his raw vocals and bone-crunching guitar, this album is his most cohesive in years. While other artists from the '50s attempt to move into country or easy listening, Wray's style hasn't altered one bit over the intervening years, and this one finds him kicking and clawing his way into the next century. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing! amazing! amazing!, November 1, 1999

this is one awesome album from Link. incredible guitar work, at both medium, slow, and frenetic tempos, some great vocal tracks like Heartbreak Hotel and and It Was So Easy, plus Fogerty's Run Thru the Jungle. Made by just Link and his drummer Rob Louvers and bassist Eric Danno, this album kicks a**. Along with Link's live Walking Down a Street Called Love, one his best releases ever. It's amazing that this 67 year old just keeps getting better. He's at the top of his game right now

Link Wray is absolutely one of the greatest guitar players of all time. His original guitar sound was light years ahead of its time. If you love loud rock guitar this CD is a must. With songs like " Rumble on the Docks " this is a one of a kind classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic guitar work!, July 23, 2000

Given the uneven quality of other Link Wray recordings, I really enjoyed this CD. Some of the vocal work by Mr. Wray is on the edge, but overall a top addition to my music collection.
