Love the new magic rules & easy to read format!,

This book is far superior to 2nd edition rules. A perfect book for the beginner, and a great update for an experienced player. The new layout is user friendly. Plus the updated rules on magic make more sense! My only disapointment is the artwork. More "realistic" artwork would be a nice inclusion. Growth in this area is definately needed. I found The chapeter on character developement much improved also, as they include active, knowledge, and language points, giving more depth to characters. In conclusion, I must say its nice to see FASA attempting to compile more information into fewer sources to make the game more affordable for the younger generation of players. For those of us who have already spent tons of Nuyen on their previous editions and supplements... well Chummer, even Alphaware becomes obsolete. Time for an upgrade! "Chameleon".

Somthing's missing,

I can only agree with all the other reviews, but what I'd like to mention is the gear section. Inclusion of Alpha-ware is a nice thing, but were is all the advanced equipment from the old sourcebooks? Is that not to overwhelm beginners or just to make a few more bucks with additional sourcebooks? I liked the old layout of the list better, it was more funtional and not fancy and unsorted like the new one. Also the advanced combatrules from "Fields of fire" could have been included (two handed fighting). And where is the big connections list? I like the new player-charachters in the book, they give more room for rp, rather than for senseless firefights.

Mixed Blessing,

The new Shadowrun 3rd edition has many new improvements and clarifications. Including revisions to combat and the magic system. It also has a problem with organization and "user-friendliness". Much of the book is not ordered in a way for easy play and reference. I am forced to have to memorize much more of the book because of this. Unless you are already experienced with Shadowrun, it will take some time before you can begin playing the 3rd Edition.
