Book Description

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence…and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absoluletly loved this book February 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
So yesterday afternoon, I got my hands on the ARC of Shadows. Needless to say, that determined the rest of the day's activities. You may have seen me on twitter all excited about it. It took me about 3 hours total to read it. I took a dinner break but that's it. Make sure you pick this one up ASAP cause it's that good. Here's my review.

Source: ARC from publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

My Summary:

Dawson is a triplet. His older (by minutes) bother, Daemon, looks identical to him. Daemon is overprotective and a little antisocial at times - at least with the humans. His sister, Dee, is hyper and very social with anyone - human or luxon. Oh and all three of them are aliens. They're supposed to stay low key, living with the human but not being discovered. The DOD looks poorly on too much ...um involvement with humans. Still they go to school and talk to the humans but that's it. Until Bethany moves to town and Dawson can't seem to leave her alone. If the luxon's don't do him in for it the DOD's gonna find out. What future is there for a human and a luxon anyway? None at all.

My Thoughts:

5 stars - READ IT NOW if not sooner

Yes I love Jennifer's writing, her characters and her storyline. I have yet to read anything from her that I didn't love but WOW I loved this book.

Dawson is this strong, fierce, determine guy that reminds me so much of Daemon without the sucky attitude. I fell fast and hard. He's attracted to Bethany from the start but it takes time for them to fall hard, which I appreciated. What I really, really enjoyed was how Dawson was bold and confident with their relationship. I loved how they spend time together. I LOVED their first kiss, which.... oh just read it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but with less Daemon comes less spark. :P January 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Warning: Spoilers all around!

Shadows is a short story from the Lux series where we meet, Dawson Black. If you've read Obsidian, then you know that Dawson was said to be dead, along with Bethany, the human girl Dawson fell in love with. The only thing revealed in Obsidian was that Dawson didn't care about the rules and what the DOD says, his love for Bethany is worth all the sacrifices he has to make. But we don't know the whole story, until now...

Is it just me or did this short story seem longer than expected? Is it because it doesn't have that much Daemon pull and power? *giggles* Just saying his name makes me so giddy. *fanning self* Whoops! I'm sorry, I'll behave. Promise. *sheepish smile*

So we finally get the chance to find out what really happened the night Dawson and Bethany disappeared. Their whole story wasn't exactly as invigorating. It's a normal tale about two teens, love at first sight, and the ever tragic ending. I'm telling you, without Daemon, things just seem a lot less interesting. *giggles again* What? Admit it, you feel it too!

Not that I'm saying this wasn't enjoyable. It was, really. I'm glad I finally got to know Dawson. But what struck a chord was when Daemon and Dee found out about Dawson's supposed death. My heart ached to see Daemon so devastated, told you! Daemon equals memorable moments. *sticks tongue out*

Anyway, I don't have much to say. I've read Obsidian, Onyx and Opal, and now this. I read Shadows just to quench a bit of my thirst for Origin. Did it work? Not so much. I'm still dying to get my hands on Origin. Ha! Ha!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shocked! May 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
WOW! This was beautifully written. It felt 100% original, the characters felt 100% real and in the end it left me feeling all sorts of emotions.

This book takes place before Obsidian and I must say that I wish it would have been released prior to Obsidian. You learn how Dawson and Bethany meet, fall in love and then are no longer. You get to understand why Daemon has such a jacked up attitude in Obsidian. He is still a major league jerk to the extreme and I really don't like him but you understand to a certain extent why. What was a surprise though was that he really wasn't that close to his siblings to begin with. Total weirdness.

Be prepared to go through a bunch of emotions. Empty is the only word I can think of to describe the feeling I felt upon ending the book. I was crying, jaw open and feeling utter emptiness. I was actually hoping that just maybe Dawson and Bethany were just... missing...

This book definitely made me appreciate the series more and I think it's a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daemon Who...? April 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
It was hard reading this book. For someone whose read OBSIDIAN, we knew how this book was going to end but we must love torturing ourselves, because I still couldn't wait to read it. So please, if you have no read OBSIDIAN, read with caution. . .

I thought I fell in love with Daemon when reading OBSIDIAN but let me tell you, Dawson absolutely stole my heart. What a charmer! Of course he's good looking, he's identical to Daemon so we don't have to talk so much about looks because all of us fans are swooning over those unrealistic green eyes. But Dawson has a way with words that Daemon certainly lacks. I also adored Bethany, like a lot. Her and Dawson were so perfect for each other it hurt.

I think you could definitely read SHADOWS before OBSIDIAN. I actually probably would recommend it because you won't know the end of the story going in to it. It might make the experience different. However, whether you choose to read this or OBSIDIAN first, read them both. Amazing, simply amazing. I cannot wait until ONYX comes out so I can indulge on some more sexy aliens!
