Peter Karp is awesome...an amazing combination of good blues music, great guitar, wonderful lyrics and a great sense of humor. Shadows and Cracks will not disappoint!

I don't know how you shoehorn a John Hiatt, Jackson Browne, Tom Waits, or Bob Dylan into a specific genre and neither does anyone else. The label is irrelevant because those guys sell records not because they appeal to a certain demographic or fan base but because they write great songs. Karp may not have risen to those heights - yet - but fans of those legends will recognize a kindred spirit when they hear it.

Peter Karp is a brilliant songwriter and performer. It is a screaming crime that he is not a household name. Don't be thrown off by the western hat on the CD cover as this is no cliche' current "Country" CD- it's far better. This is a soulful and fulfilling set of songs that transcend Blues, alt-alt Country, a hint of Cajun and Rock.
Excellent production values and performances by all players. Standout piano, electric slide, resonator slide, finger picking, flat out rock mixed with introspective and often funny lyrics. Additionally, I just attended an intimate venue concert (02/2011) which featured Peter Karp and Susan Foley. "He Said, She Said" is not a feely-wheelie, softie girly-whirly romantic borefest but an outstanding collaboration between the two principle players. Susan as an individual, with her band or as a music partner with Karp is beyond reproach as a musician. Holy cr*p- if you like fast paced, accurate runs on the fret board then Foley is for you. She can scream a Telecaster as well as an intricate nylon Classical style accoustic. Karp and or Foley are HIGHLY recommended. |
