Watching Paint Dry, June 29, 2005
This review is from: Shadows of the Dead (DVD)
I watched this movie, and many brain cells died. I felt like one of the lead characters. If you're looking for a movie that will make you feel like a zombie, pick this one up.
The story concerns a guy who gets attacked while taking a woodland stroll with his girlfriend. For reasons unknown, the attack causes our hero's heart to stop. He's apparently dead, but he doesn't seem to know it. So, he hangs out in his apartment and his girlfriend brings him hot soup and tries to nurse him back to health. Of course, it's only a matter of time before our guy decides to infect his girlfriend with this lovely gift. So, now she's kinda undead too. They hang out in their bedroom and bemoan their fate. Lots of caked on white makeup ensues. She hates him for doing this to her. The End.
I understand that when you have five dollars to make a horror movie, one of the first things you decide to do is find a way to contain the story. Movies like "Saw", 'Cabin Fever", "Evil Dead" and "Misery" show that you can have a very effective horror film with a minimum of locations. But setting your entire movie in a bedroom with two undead characters who don't really do anything but bicker is just plain lazy. It's about as scary as watching paint dry. Maybe that's the sequel to this one.

more info at www.anocproductions.com, December 10, 2004
This review is from: Shadows of the Dead (DVD)
Checked out the flick since I'm a huge horror fan. it's has a unique perspective on the cliche zombie formula. I just jumped on here to see what other's reaction's were, or just get more info. guess there's nothing. I did find the official website though .... http://www.anocproductions.com/ for more info. on a side note, it's nothing like Day of the dead, or 28 days later.

unique horror film. different., October 22, 2004
This review is from: Shadows of the Dead (DVD)
This is a UNIQUE horror film. This is the story from the monster's point of view. If you want a horror film can offer something more then blood and guts, then you will enjoy this.
If you find yourself watching horror movies and always wanting the killer to kill the insipid cliche teenagers, then why not check out a movie from the monster's point of view? This brought up interesting questions.... What is it like to be a zombie? What are the moral delimas one goes through when one begins to transform into a zombie? Do you take other's lives to sustain your own? Who do you kill if you have to? How can you justify such actions?
If you want a slasher film with the same plot go check out JASON or FREDDY parts 19 or 24.
The production values may be lacking at times, but that all seems to add to the feel of the film. Makes it seem a little more real. This is obviously a independant film, but I'd take a independant film over a studio film if there's a unique idea in it. This film definetly has unique ideas going for it.
