With Shadows and Fire, I wanted to take many of the elements we know and love from fantasy and horror - dragons, werewolves, shapeshifters - and place them in a sci fi world where that's all normal. The result is 2 species, humans and supernaturals, with a great deal of tension and conflict between them. I don't want to give too much away, but it's a dark world in many respects. The characters, however, (both human and otherwise) are warm and a good portion of the dialogue is sarcastic and funny. I spent a lot of time developing personalities and the latticework of relationships between all the players. Frankly, I love them like family at this point and I'm dying to see their stories develop and continue. - Hopefully you will feel the same, because that's what it's all about for me. Pick up my book and I promise you an escape. Dive into an action packed adventure with funny, memorable characters, an explosion and a few weapons, a sweet hovercraft, a local bar ... oh, and even a little classic rock from the 1960's. - And stay tuned, because I'm writing Book 2.
About the Author
Jennifer Fales is an east coast girl transplanted to the west coast just shy of a decade ago. English is her native tongue, followed closely by sarcasm. Her interests run the gamut from science to the supernatural, with a little kickboxing thrown in for good measure. She currently lives in Corona with her boyfriend. This is her first novel as well as the first in this series. She is currently working on book # 2.

I'm an east coast girl, a huge fan of Stephen Colbert, and an avid reader and writer, who moved to the west coast about 8 years ago - Florida to California, to be specific. I was born in the early 1970's, but I'll let you do the guesswork on the age. My passions run the gamut from wine and rock n' roll to science fiction and kick boxing. I've been writing for years behind the scenes and finally decided it was time to share. There is a touch of genius here. I love short stories where most is left to the imagination of the reader. These adventures suggest good reading for years to come. As a writer myself, I can understand exactly what this bright young author is striving for. Bring on the next book...!

Wonderful Debut,

A debut with lots of promise is what Shadows and Fire was to me. I was able to slip just enough away into the story to get a tiny glimpse of what I think will become a fantastic fantasy world full of memorable supernatural creatures and adventure. The book was just a bit to short for me to really make alot of noise over but it will be interesting to see brother and sister reunite and channel their powers and also to get to know the rest of the characters better. Jennifer has done an excellant job at laying the groundwork for a great story in the next book for sure!

Short taste of exciting world,

This is rather short book about Lilith and Laydon, twins who were separated at birth, and are trying to come together as adults. There is a whole slew of paranormal creatures, including a sexy dragonlady and protective wolfman.I felt like this book gave me just a taste of a larger world. I wanted more out of it: more detail, more story, more exposure to the characters. At just over 100 pages, there just wasn't enough book for me. Luckily, this is just the first book in a series, so there should hopefully be more coming. There is definitely lots of material hinted at in this book for future stories. The preface alone could be its own book. I want to read about Lilith and Laydon's history and powers, Maltha and Geoff'tan's relationship, and Father Augustin's history. Overall, this is an exciting story, but much too short for my liking. You get a taste of a world and characters, but it is rather abbreviated.
