Book Description

Shadows to Light is book 5 in the Shadows of Justice series:

"Regan Black clearly has a talent for creating heroines who aren't afraid to kick some butt..." --Tanya C.

"I can sum this book up in two words...it rocked!! ...a unique tale beautifully woven with paranormal entities and an ever thickening plot." 5/5 from Nikki of Close Encounters With The Night Kind

"Regan Black delivers! All the elements readers have come to expect from a 2096 novel- a kick-butt alpha female lead, an equally strong hero, and a gritty, fast-paced thriller."

" ...film noir atmosphere with the tinge of a science fiction..." -- the Bookish Dame
~~

A supernatural healer, Mira escapes a trial of her peers only to be sent on an impossible mission: Rescue her scientist father from a madman who's using him to create bio-weapons. But she's no spy. On her own, with no real clues, she isn't sure where to turn.

Part of a covert task force searching for a missing government scientist, Jameson is tasked with staring at a laboratory building day in and day out. The boredom is overwhelming until Mira, a woman he cannot forget, shows up in a place she should never be.

Forced together by circumstance, Mira and Jameson enter an adventure that will push them to their limits - and quite possibly beyond.

"Move over Lara Croft--Jaden Michaels is the quintessential heroine of the 21st century, full of heart and totally lethal!" -- Bestselling romantic suspense author Debra Webb for Justice Incarnate

"I enjoy this author's talent for detail in her plots, which adds to her futuristic settings and the depth of a mystery being unraveled. But, it is the witty banter between her characters, and artful telling of a love story that makes Ms. Black one of my favorite authors." -- Lisa Phillips, author of Obsession Everlasting, Knight Everlasting and Rogue Everlasting on Invasion of Justice

"Another great story by Regan Black. Not only a bang-up mystery/thriller, but a nice love story, too...story is outstanding. An overall great read!" --Kat Thompson 5/5 stars for Veil of Justice

"If you're a fan of old 1940's detective novels, or if you like film noir...I believe you'll like Tracking Shadows...it's just that flavor kick that's so unusual, I predict you'll want to come back for more." -- 5/5 stars from the Bookish Dame on Tracking Shadows

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Series!!!! April 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I can sum this book up in two words...it rocked!! I am totally anal at starting a series from the first book, just because you can get lost in the sub-plots or miss clues. Not so in this book. The only hint that you maybe reading a series is the appearances of 4 more couples in a spot in the book. Otherwise it reads just like a stand-alone or the first book in the series.

Mira is a healer who continuously pushes the boundaries of her job. She is suppose to save people without drawing any attention to herself or her skills. So basically she is supposed to take injuries that were critical or decapitating and turn them into something that was easily treatable by a doctor. Miracles were not allowed in the order. So she travels, to different places, in different jobs, helping people but always alone. Until she shared a kiss with one lone solider that rocked her world.

How can one kiss change your life? It had been a simple job for Jameson. But one kiss with one extraordinary nurse had transformed him completely. He had dreams about her, even obsessed about her to the point that when she came strolling down the street around his new assignment, he swore he conjured her up. But what was she doing here? And how was it that she was more captivating then the last time they bumped into each other?

So this is the story. It is a unique tale beautifully woven with paranormal entities and an ever thickening plot. It moved along with absolutely no dry spells through Mira's growth and transformation to a completely new entity. Being a newbie to this series, I'm not aware if they explained certain aspects before, but I wasn't lost or confused and was able to jump right in. LOL...well fall right in. It was definitely a gripping book that sucked you because dull moments did not exsist in this realm. Hats off to you Regan!! It was truly comparable to Nalini's Psy series, and I hope I do not insult Regan with the comparison because Nalini is one of my favorite authors!!! I will be going back to grab book one - four!!! Thank you Regan for the absolutely gripping and wonderful read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep Them Coming !!!! March 20, 2012

Thank you Regan Black for another formidable book in the Justice Series, Shadows to Light blew me away. I have been a fan of your writing for quite a few years now, as you can see by my reviews of this series. You never cease to keep me holding my breath to see what new nuances you can tempt me with that bring your books to a new level.

Where do I start? Again this book starts in the future the year 2094. Mira is a healer, daughter of a famous healer in her world, doctor in ours. It is wartime, and Mira tries to keep her powers secret by being a nurse for our troops. She is a "shadow" not really making friends, not even conversing with patients, for fear she will be found out. She meets a soldier, they share a kiss...

Flash to the year 2096 and Mira is before a tribunal, just barely escaping with some help from her mother, to be taken to a place of safety. It is here Brent Jameson, an ex Special Forces soldier, is on a surveillance job outside a building on a college campus in Chicago, looking for something that will tie it into a case they are working on. He sees Mira and does not believe his eyes... It was all about "that Kiss".

Regan Black has assembled the whole gang, Slick Mickey and all, to help Mira and Brent solve the mystery. There are kidnappings, murders, plotting, and a dynamite ride for all the wonderful characters we have come to love during the series. It was great seeing them and hearing from them, like seeing old friends.

Mira has battles to overcome both physically and emotionally. The time shared with Jameson is both sizzling and tender. Jameson is a war tired young man, indisputably tall and handsome, who has to decide what is more important to him, and that is hard when they both cannot keep their hands off each other.

The search for her father and the thought of him being a traitor to the country and himself plays heavily on Mira's decisions, and her ability to trust these new people who want to be called friends. It is a strange feeling to her, having never had any.

Ms. Black's stories are fast moving, page turners, filled with concise descriptions and lots of action when needed, and lots of banter between the characters. After the last book I read, I thought Slick Mickey's story was the greatest book in the series that I read, but again Ms. Black has pulled another rabbit out of her hat. They keep getting better and better. Mira who when we began this book believed by her own feelings that she was a mouse. By the end we saw the Mouse Roar!!!

Okay Regan, must say I am addicted to Chicago 2090 something. Your books are a rare treat for someone that reads many books a week for reviews and for pleasure... Your books are pure pleasure. Cannot wait to see what you have up your sleeve for us next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scientific Urban Fantasy Sizzler February 24, 2012

Shadows to Light (Shadows of Justice)

This rapid-paced novel caught my attention from the very beginning. Just as these soldiers are tossed into immediate combat, so the reader is tossed into a hot and sizzling convoluted plot line involving biological warfare, standard warfare, a futuristic apocalyptic setting-and a "Healer," one who must conceal her skills, yet needs to use them or else risk going insane from bottling away her talents.

But in a real upheaval of the entire purpose of a healing society, Mira discovers that she is about to lose her powers, and perhaps, even be executed-all because she desired to help a wounded prisoner. Amazing it is to discover this type of hierarchy among those "unusuals" who are gifted with powers beyond normal comprehension-they have become so authoritarian and despotic. In a world crying out desperately for healing and succor, these "judges" decide who gets help, and how little help can be offered. And woe betide any healer who steps beyond that line!

I haven't yet read the first four books in this series, so I can confidently state that this book functions very well as a stand-alone novel. (That doesn't mean I won't be rushing to read the first four-I will!) For any reader who likes urban fantasy-with a scientific twist; futuristic settings; and may I add, seriously hot special operations men-in and out of the military- who come very well-equipped, this book will be a treasured and re-read gem.
