4.0 out of 5 stars Great little tidbits! May 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this collection of novellas.

The 1st (Shadows and Light): Definitely the darkest of the three. This is where the collection gets its name. Probably my least favorite. It was good, but a little darker than I prefer. It did have some delicious tension between dark and light. And I enjoyed the romance.

The 2nd (Warwolf): My favorite! This one was awesome!! It had the balance of humor, romance, and story that I most love from Melissa's books. The male lead was delicious! I have to say I love a man that owns what he feels and goes all in. My only complaint is that I felt Ema's emotional journey was too abrupt. One minute she's holding it all back, and the next it's all good. Even with that though, I LOVED IT!!!

The 3rd (Moved): Another great one! Again, that perfect mix of humor, romance, and story. My only disappointment was that it ended so soon! I really wanted more.

I greatly enjoyed this collection of novellas! I only wish I could have more of their stories!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix of Short Stories! May 29, 2014
By Angela
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book is a great mix of very different captivating short stories. My favorite short story of the three was "Moved". It was the most like Melissa Haag's "Judgement of the Six Series" which I love. It has a strong feisty female character who is witty and creates humorous situations with the male lead. "Warwolf" also had humor and a mix of shifter and magic paranormal elements and I enjoyed it as well. "Shadows and Light" was the darker and more intense story which had me wondering with each page how the story would be resolved. If you sometimes want a good quick read, I recommend these great paranormal short stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Melissa Haag owns the paranormal genre! May 23, 2014
By Desiree
Format:Kindle Edition
I actually really enjoy novellas and love Melissa Haag so this was a no brainer for me. I was especially intrigued when I saw that she was mixing it up with dark and funny stories. I do know that if I want my paranormal fix, Melissa is definitely the person I go to. Her "Judgment of the Six" series is one of my favorite paranormal series out there.

This series was fun and serious at the same time. I found myself eagerly waiting to find out what was going to happen next. Each character was developed beautifully and it was cool to get to know them even if for a short story.

With paranormal it is always an interesting find to me. You've got your stereotypical spins on vampires, werewolves, etc. and then there are these authors that can create an entirely different storyline for a supernatural creature we've been reading about for years. That is what Melissa does. She creates these worlds and scenarios that just absolutely entertain.

I know I didn't go much into the actual stories themselves because, to be honest, they are novellas and I will end up giving it away. The synopsis above is dead on and better than anything I could have done. The only thing I can add is for those of us who like a little romance with our paranormal, this delivered (but its NOT steamy so don't expect that!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Melissa's books May 18, 2014
By Leahrae
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read every thing Melissa has published and enjoyed everyone of them. They all have a great story, suspense and the world building is great. A lot of paranormal books are about alpha males, almost to cave man style, dragging the female of by her hair pounding their chest saying MINE. And a lot of sex with a little story. I find Melissa's style of writing different and refreshing. I stalk Melissa's on her website and Facebook and can't wait to read more of her work.

4.0 out of 5 stars First story is mind blowing May 17, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The first story is one of the best novella's I have ever read. It starts out of the gate like a thoroughbred in the Kentucky Derby. BAM, she had me from the first page and never lost me. You don't know what is happening and you just keep reading as it unfolds. The ending does not disappoint. It is dramatic and what happens Is unexpected. I really hope that this is the seed for a new series. The world is new and there is so much potential here. The characters are fantastic and well defined for a novella. This is some fantastic writing and story telling in the first novella. The next two stories were downhill for me. Not the same kind of stories at all and did not grab me like the first one. Melissa Haag really is a great writer in the making.

Alright! Let's do this!!

My review is going to be different from my normal ones because this was three novellas in one book, cool? Cool.

So overall, I loved the mix of two humorous stories and one more serious, darker story. I thought while they stories were shorter they were complete, would have I liked to have seen more of each? Well yeah I love Melissa's writing of course I did. i think that if she never decided to dip farther into each one of these worlds she totally could. I think though for short, easy, fun reads these were perfect.

Now a little more in depth about each one!

Reap the Shadow, Slay the Light

I really enjoyed the concept of this story, we start off very in the dark with Phoebe, which I think works really well for the story. I enjoyed that we got this very much darker story than the other two were. This was intense, it was get your heart-racing, and what will happen next sort of thing. There was mystery, a bit of gore, but over all just awesome-ness. I enjoyed the relationship between Will and Phoebe. I LOVED Will, so much he was not going to let Phoebe be a hermit and waste away. The entire novella was very creative and interesting. I had never really seen anything like this and I loved it. So very much! Very intriguing.

WarWolf: Half breed

Don't let the name fool you, it is not about a werewolf going to War.....yeah I didn't totally think that when i first saw the title or anything.... hahaha...anyways this was a fun little tale about accepting who you are, even if you are a mix amounts of races. I really enjoyed the different-ness of Declan, he was funny, and sweet, but very emotional. At first I felt a little awkward with him but he really grew on me and I did end up falling for him, much like Ema.
