First of all, the actual play time is approximately 20 minutes (not the 60-80 minutes listed above). A great relief for our family. The game does not require a board or a lot of small parts. The instructions are printed in 3 languages (English, French and German) and are concise. A player can quickly pick up the concepts which are relatively easy to understand. There are 2 decks of cards The primary deck of cards are oversize (approximately (3.25 inches square) and do not require language skills to understand. The other deck contains consists of 9 cards in each language (27 total) and are for an "Expert Variant" (we used them right off). For this gamer, cooperation from other players is necessary (unless you are playing solo, another feature I like) but be careful someone may be a traitor or even change allegiance! The game is totally dissimilar to the board game of "Shadows over Camelot" other than the suits of the cards which represent some aspects of Arthurian legend. The biggest drawback for most folks is that it takes a lot of memorization of what cards you saw go into the 'discard type' pile, then some sorting to add up the score. For a card game, yes, there is a lot going but is easily enjoyable for most folks of any age.

Should come with 2 free bonus cards according to the publisher.

The new version of shadows preserves the idea of a possible traitor within a group of players who fled cards trying to monitor their value so that they fall within a very narrow range, 11 to 13. To complicate things, multiple suits of cards are involved and special cards in the deck modify previously played cards. Guess correctly to earn white swords while late or incorrect guesses earn black. When reduced to just a card game, the memory aspect of the game shines through. While I miss all the cool plastic pieces of the boardgame, I have to admit that this version is extremely portable. Without the advanced cards I'm not convinced the memory aspect is challenging enough to provide an opportunity for the traitor to work their devious plans. I'm willing to give the game more chances, especially in instances where space for bringing games is at a premium. However, I would much prefer to play the original boardgame in nearly every other instance.

Small, compact and very good quality cards and tokens.(couldn't find proper sleeves for the square cards though Adequate rule book. (Though it might come with 2 extra cards, 1 Morgana and 1 Merlin, my wife and I made up our own rule for those 2 cards :) ) Can play solo as well. Great twist of having a traitor/traitors among the group is so much added fun. Thinking of getting the board game version and its expansion soon!!
