I fell in love with stroopwafels while visiting the Netherlands a few years back and had been looking for a good substitute for the real thing. These come close, but do not act as a full substitute if you're looking for the real thing. The wafel part of the cookie is more moist than crunchy and tastes like it's been saturated with sugar. As a result, it bends when you eat it rather than giving you that crisp, fresh taste. My husband, who has never had one before, didn't care for them. He said they tasted "grainy and wet." Still, these are not going to be an exact copy of the Holland delicacy as this recipe has been modified to be suitable for those who have a milk allergy or for vegans (made without milk or eggs). They're also made with wheat flour and cane sugar, so that's going to change the taste a bit too.

Basically, if you like your desserts to have a big sweet honey taste and don't mind having a soft, moist wafel shell rather than a crunch, they're actually not bad. I would order them again simply because they're vegan and come fairly close to the delicacy I remember, but if you're looking for a closer approximation to the original thing you may want to try another brand.

While I have never had the real thing because I've been vegan longer than I knew these existed, I had these many years ago and thought they were incredibly good. Unfortunately, I was unable to find them and had forgotten what they were called until we were at a vegan market last weekend and now I can order them online. They are more on the chewy side than crispy (like a wafer or waffle cone) and as mentioned here and on the box, they are maple rather than caramel - another bonus since that's one of my favorite flavors and caramel is not. Taking that all into account, I could see if you were comparing the two you might feel like this is not the same cookie but if you just look at it like a Dutch treat (they're all so good) with a cup of good coffee or tea, you should still love these.

I wanted to like these. I really did. I was sure I would! Until I actually tried one. I don't know if it's the whole wheat flour that did it, or the palm oil they used instead of butter, or a combination of both... but these were just not good. They don't taste anything like stroopwafels are supposed to. I like maple and honey, and would have been fine with that filling instead of the traditional caramel— but these don't even taste much like maple or honey, perhaps because the whole wheat palm oil waffle cookie, bland as it was, was overpowering. I'm sorry—I would love to support a local maple business! But they really need to improve the recipe.

Did a search on amazon looking for vegan stroopwafels and these came up, reading the front of the box it didn't take much to discover they aren't! Yes bizarrely the manufacturer has gone to the effort to replace the egg and milk ingredients but has added honey. Honey is not vegan. Please stop referring to them as vegan as it mislead someone catering for vegans. The search continues . .

These cookies were disappointingly bland and soft with a boring homogeneous texture and not a hint of maple or honey. I've never had freshly made stroopwafels, but I doubt they taste anything like what came out of this box. Very disappointed.

I'll have to wait for my next trip to Holland, don't get me wrong they are not bad however their taste is far from the one I remember. Plus side, my little one loves them.
