This review is from: Shag, Ltd. (Hardcover)
Josh Agle, a.k.a. SHAG, is a gifted artist, with a fun view of the Space-Age Era (late50s-60s).

Odd characters, cultural icons & tiki culture are depicted in a distinct & likable style, sparkling with wit.

Buy this, then his prints!

BTW--there is a low-cost SHAG poster for sale here on Amazon.
PINK PANTHER 40TH ANNIVERSARY POSTER 24" X 36" #24210

Also, SHAG MUSIC!!
Shagxotica! New Music Inspired By the Paintings of Shag

The Hipster gives this book a THUMBS UP!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource for a Great Artist's Works, November 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Shag, Ltd. (Hardcover)
I have been a fan of the low brow art movement for quite some time, and Josh Agle, SHAG, is one of the best. His work is inspired by 50's print advertising, tiki, lounge, and Rat Pack lifestyle motifs. This book, also available in softcover, is a catalogue of his works through 2006. As there are a lot of not so reputable dealers on the internet who offer to sell SHAG's works and prints under value, this catalogue was created with the idea of curbing the sales of copies of the works, to show what the originals look like. SHAG's art is fun and whimsical, I am fortunate to own some of his prints and met him at his Chicago show 2 years ago, he is an exceptional artist, as well as a very nice individual to meet in person.

The title says it all. If you are a Shag fan and love his work you will absolutely love this book. It pretty much covers the gamut of all the retro lowbrow type art that Shag is so famous for through his career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Intro/collection, April 20, 2008
This review is from: Shag, Ltd. (Hardcover)
Anyone interested in low-brow art or pop culture animation from the 50's or 60's will love this collection. I wish I could afford the actual prints. Tongue-in-cheek, fun, thought-provoking. This is only one artist, so if your interest is piqued, check out the work of other artists in the genre.
