What the Real Shag Sountrack Should Be,
By Jenni (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shag: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I must have too much time on my hands... Anyways, I was greatly disappointed that the "soundtrack" didn't include even one of my favorite songs from the movie, so I've done my own research and here is a list of the songs that were in the movie and should be on the soundtrack. Most of these songs can be found on albums available on Amazon.
Monkey Time - Major Lance Ooh Aah - Jakki O Stagger Lee - Lloyd Price It Will Stand - The Showmen Easier Said Than Done - The Essex Baby Work Out - Jackie Wilson Since I Don't Have You - Skyliners Sixty-Minute Man - Billy Ward I hope this helps!

Shag The Movie - A Missed Opportunity For A Great Soundtrack,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shag: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Shag The Movie soundtrack is a missed opportunity. The tracks on the audio CD are good to be sure. But it is what is not on the CD that is a major disappointment for anyone who has seen this movie. The movie opens up with the Shirelles' classic "Mama Said" (left off this compilation). And down at Myrtle Beach at the dance hall where all the action takes place, three great renditions of rock/R&B classics are not on this "soundtrack " CD! Those songs are "Stagger Lee", "Sixty Minute Man", and "Stay". Each of these classics are featured songs in the movie. Moreover, the movie reaches its climax at the Shag Dance Contest with all that great hoofing done to "Stagger Lee". Leaving this track off the CD would be like leaving "Unchained Melody" by the Righteaous Brothers off the Ghost CD soundtrack! It is a shame that what would could have been a great CD is not. Anyone who has seen this movie has to wonder how these, and other tracks that were a major part of the film score, were not included.

I was very disapointed with this soundtrack,

When I first saw the movie SHAG, I fell in love with the 60's music that was played and made an immense effort to go to the store and purchase the soundtrack. Much to my dismay, the soundtrack lacked the songs I had come to buy. Such songs as "Mama Said", and "60 minute man" failed to be on the soundtrack. With these few songs, I think many more copies would be sold. How could such a brilliantly composed movie fail to include its masterpieces on the soundtrack? I don't know!

If you're like me, and looked forever for the Ooh Aah song, well look no more! I found it on "Art Laboe's 60 Killer Oldies" and on Jakki O "In the mood for love." Both are available on Amazon! YEA!

Very un-shagadelic,

I adore "Shag - The Movie," and since the video in current release has a completely different soundtrack than the original (has anyone else noticed this?) I decided to buy the soundtrack. Not cool at all. They chose the weakest songs from the film, some of which I don't remember, and practically bored me to sleep. The biggest mistake? Not including Lloyd Price's "Stagger Lee," the one song that made the movie, in my opinion. Who wouldn't want to relive Pudge and Chip's trophy-winning shag by playing this song over and over? I know I did. How sacreligious.

I loved the Movie, but the soundtrack? No WAY!,
By A Customer

Ok, this is not the original soundtrack, which i was very disappointed in. I mean, why make a soundtrack of an awesome movie, if you're not going to put the songs that are IN THE MOVIE on the soundtrack??? This is a bad one...

the title of the song playing in the scenes with chip and pudge and carson and buzz is called "ooh ahh" and the artist is Jakki O. I was also disappointed in the album. So, I waited for the end credits of the movie to find the songs that were really the best part of the movie like "stagger lee" by lloyd price and "since i don't have you" by the skyliners. good stuff!

Sorry folks, Blame it on MGM Video,
By joshsc@hotmail.com (Boston, Ma (Now) From SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shag: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The original movie was released by HBO Video. Evidently, MGM Video bought the rights to the video and re-released the movie but also evidently, didn't purchase the rights to the songs that were in it so they put other songs in it. I doubt very seriously if you'll ever see the original version on sale unless it's a previewed movie at a no named video store. Once it was released, it only was on the shelves for a short period and (according to Block Buster Video) was pulled from the shelves because music in it didn't have licenses correctly done. I guess after that, MGM bought the rights or something and re-released it. You are totally right..with out the original music, the movie just isn't the same. The soundtrack isn't the soundtrack to the movie..it's some kind of gimmick they came up with after re-releasing the movie. For those of you who have not seen the original, my heart goes out to you. Try a few local video stores and you may get lucky. Just look who released it for the original... HBO VIDEO! Being able to be apart of it, it brings back so many memories. Thanks to all who have written me asking questions. I will continue to do so as long as there are still questions about this movie. It is a joy to watch because many of the buildings are no longer around because Hurricane Hugo wiped them out in 1988 i think the year was. The movie was actually shot the summer of 1986 (I graduated highschool that year and drove down to myrtle beach to be in the dance scenes. It was hot, humid and the crew were some of the rudest people i've ever met. Thankfully, Carry Hamilton(Nadine),Leilani Sarelle (Suette), and Page Hannah(luanne) were really nice and i was able to get my picture taken with them. Believe me , they really made a naive kid's dream come true. It really delights me that so many people love this movie. And it amazes me the number of people who can recite the lines word for word from it. some people really have too much time on their hands hehehehe.. Again, thanks to all, Josh

What is this?,

Alright, what did they do with the original songs? This movie had awsome music on it! I may only be 13 but this was one of my favorite movies. I was about to order this CD when I liestened to the samples and what like, "what the heck?" Where is 60 minute man, Stay, and all the other GOOD songs that were in the movie? I think that they majorly need to fix this problem and give us the Sound Track that we are looking for!
