Biography

Alan Menken is a multi-award winning film and theatrical composer and pianist, born in New York in 1949.

He made his theatrical debut with God Bless You, Mr Rosewater in 1979, although he had more success with the follow-up, Little Shop of Horrors. His score earned him an Academy Award nomination, and later was adapted for the film which starred Steve Martin and Rick Moranis.

The first reviewer seemed to not know that this was a score only project for Menken. The cover of the cd clearly credits him with the score only. No lyricist is named either. Very upfront.

That said, this score is really good. It has Alan Menken's unmistakable style. Very melodic and heartwarming. It was nice to hear a non song score by Mr. Menken. For Anyone that is a fan of Menken, I recommend buying this cd. Underrated score that is absolutely worth the purchase!

I bought this because I am an Alan Menken fan. So I was really disappointed to discover that there appear to be no new Alan Menken songs on this album, only some incidental music. The songs are by other artists, and are ok - but they do not have Alan Menken's unique talent. A real disappointment.
