Format: MP3 Music
A titanic release from Shaggy, an album that only a fully mature artist at the height of his powers could release. Shaggy is on message and on target, daring to diverge into heavier themes on cuts like "Believer," which also serves up a juicy slice of melody evocative of, oddly, early Eighties England. Those tunes, of course, have probably been circulating and fermenting in his head ever since, and now he's drawing off that brandy, giving it a swirl, and bottling it for us. Orchestration and production are a big part of the success here, with intriguing and subtle riffs and melodies throughout. Opening track "Too Cute" is undoubtedly one of the standouts, brassy, bassy and ballsy, I listened to it repeatedly and still found something new each time.

By no means has he left familiar territory, though. "Still Mr. Lover," he proclaims on "Everything you need," but this is a Mr. Lover less of the dancehall than one who has explored some darker regions. He's singing from a driving, incessant and compelling place that asks and gives no quarter. So be warned: Get your brain straps tightened up because Shaggy is going to reach in through your ear-holes and give your brain a stir. You may never get him out after this.

So nice to have Shaggy breaking new ground again after the disappointment of "Intoxication" - I was afraid we'd lost a talented and intelligent artist, but he pulls it back together on this release.
