Shaggy Planet by Ron Goulard
Shaggy Planet, first published in 1973, is mildly entertaining as a secret agent story with the addition of a thin veneer of science fiction props to appeal to the fan base. Secret agent, Peter Torres, is hired by the Mirabilis agency to find a missing government spy, a Mr. Dunnlin. It seems that Dunnlin uncovered illicit chemical warfare experiments being performed under the guise of protein research. Dunnlin's cover was blown and the ruling junta decided to use him as a guinea pig in a chemical gas research project. The experiment was a success and Dunnlin was turned into a dog-like animal. Author Goulard's charm is his keen ability to poke fun at rampant technology, pompous institutions and the excesses of the idle class. We are introduced to a certain princess who has imported an entire Cathedral from Earth for a residence on another planet. In another vintage college age youth protest this sacrilege by waving machine parts like sacred icons.

Just for Fun,

I read this book in one day, it's short. It was a terrible sick day and this book made me laugh. For a light read to cheer you up, this book is perfect.
