Like most Jet fans, I thought Get Born was awesome. Then Shine On came out and I was kind of like whatever. It was a good CD but there just wasn't enough riffing going on in my opinion. Then came this album, Shaka Rock. This is the music that Jet fans like hearing them make. With basically only one "ballad" type song, She Holds a Grudge, this generally pretty straight up rock and roll. Some of the stand outs are obviously She's A Genius, Black Hearts (one of my new favorite Jet songs), Let Me Out, and Start The Show. Then you get to the obvious flaw of the album, the lyrics. Some of them are pretty horrendous but it shouldn't be surprising to fans that they aren't writing anything groundbreaking. If you can get past that, I think this is a fun album overall. Nothing special, but good.

4.0 out of 5 stars This album is great!, April 19, 2011

I don't know why this album didn't get more press than it did. It's one of the best albums that's been released in the past few years. Great songs, great sound, great lyrics and great playing. Jet has always seemed to get a knocked because "their sound is a derivative"...whatever that means. As if anything today isn't. All of the songs on this album are well-written, catchy and fun to listen to. They aren't solving the world's problems or re-inventing music....they are, however, putting out some of the best rock and roll music coming out right now, and growing organically as opposed to seeing the latest trends and doing an about-face to try to cash in. And for that, they deserve a lot of credit. In the context of the state of music today, this album deserves 5 stars. In the context of all of the brilliant musicians and song-writers in music history - it holds up pretty well too.

Long time JET fan. Overall Great album! and much more up-beat than their last album; shine on. I would say however; a number of the songs and guitar riffs are reminiscent of other bands (one in particular comes to mind: The beatles).

If you like garage rock, and you don't mind some recycled sounds, its still a really good album.
