2.0 out of 5 stars Several problems right out of the box.
From reading the reviews you can see it is really mixed. Assembly was made far more difficult than neccessary (the screws were not needed and hard to put in the deeper holes). A snap together design would have worked much better. One car ran only twice, then never worked again on new batteries. The one car that did work rarely could make one lap. The car also had...

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes a while to assemble!, November 19, 2007

A heads up for Christmas morning: put it together ahead of time! It took me over a half hour to assemble with three frustrated, trying to be "helpful" boys looking on. I'm not sure the excitement will be long-lived, but it's what my 4 year-old really wanted for his birthday. His 7 & 9 year-old brothers are having fun with it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite Gift, December 26, 2007

After a full day of playing hard with this race track, my kids (8, 6 and 4 years old) all love it and keep coming back to it. It does take a while to set up, but I followed the instructions without a problem, put the screws in, snapped it together, and it only came unsnapped once - when my son tripped over it. Otherwise, it's worked great. And, the 'crash' version of the cars takes me back to the good old days of Smash-em Up Derby - so I like this toy as well. Race night, here we come!

The car also had problems with the ramps, the plastic wheels would start to spin and it could not make the hills. There are jumps, but the car rarely does a jump with any success. It never mattered how often the car was shaken, it went about the same distance. This is a hard item to ever return due to the assembly issues. It is difficult to ever get back in the same box. I am really surprised that this low of quality came from Fisher-Price. However, reading some of the reviews gives me the feeling that there are multiple versions of this toy out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustratating Toy, July 4, 2008

Sorry Fisher Price, you really messed up on this toy! My boys (5 & 3 1/2) got this toy from Santa for Christmas... The garbage man got it this week. I could have donated it, but why pass on the frustration! Like many reviews before, the tracks will not stay together for any length of time. I was constantly putting the tracks back together. The amount of fun they had those first few days was not worth the meltdowns every time the track split apart... and it didn't even have to come completely apart... a gap between pieces would cause the cars not to race.

I thought maybe we got a bad track, but after reading the reviews seems like there are a lot of bad tracks out there... Too bad we didn't get one that worked like some of you who are having hours of fun... I seriously can't believe there are any good reviews for this race track. If you still buy this track, save the box and your receipt! If you get a bad track, take it back fast... it won't get any better!

4.0 out of 5 stars It took a while to put together- in the end it was worth it, October 27, 2007

I bought the fisher price shake and crash after the shake and go cars were such a big hit. I have to say that when I first took the pieces out if the box I thought I would have to be a scientist to put them together. The shake and go track was so easy to put together. It took to of us to figure it out. After screwing up the last of the track we were ready for some fun. It has been nothing but fun every since- even if sometimes the track will still fall apart easily.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality, March 4, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shake 'N Go Crash-Ups Crash Course (Toy)
This item was unfortunately a disappointment. I think the idea itself is great, but the end product is not. As others have noted, the ramp does not fit and was useless. As every review does not mention this, I assume it may be manufacturing lot related. However, on the one I purchased the ramp is 1/2 inch narrower that the space its intended to snap into per the poorly written directions.
The parts do not snap together firmly, and continued to come apart each time a car ran the course. In reading past reviews, others have apparently had to resort to tape and super glue to hold this thing together.
I've never written an Amazon review before, but the dismal quality of this product and excessive price for what you get made me want to hopefully keep others from wasting their money. Buyer beware.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tons of Fun for Boys and Girls, November 17, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

I purchased this for my 3-year old nephew and he just loves it. I have found that even the girls that come to visit enjoy playing with this set. The track was designed for two cars to race side-by-side with a starting point that allows for the cars to begin to race at the same time with the press of a lever. The starting point is a section of the track that contains a plastic pop-up piece that when the pop-up is up, it keeps the cars in place until the release button is pushed. It is so simple to use, just shake the cars for about 5 seconds, put them on top of the pop-up and press the button. The cars go racing off, going up ramps and jumping off ramps, racing around the track until there is either a crash or the cars stop. When the cars do crash, the hood and doors of the car open and they make a loud crashing sound. I have found myself enjoying this toy set too!

This product has to be fully assembled and the assembly can be frustrating and time consuming. The upper and lower track pieces all need to be screwed together so that the tracks can fit together in the end just by snapping each track piece in place. The assembly took me about an hour. I would strongly suggest to everyone to the directions thoroughly once before beginning the assembly, just to familiarize your self with what is ahead. Try to organize the pieces in order of assembly so you are not scrambling to find the pieces during the process. Each piece is numbered underneath to help you identify and pair up matching pieces as well as the order the track pieces need to be snapped together once assembly is completed. If in the end, your track set does not securely stay together or the pieces of track won't snap together correctly, you can be sure that you assembled it incorrectly and that it is not a defective or dysfunctional product. Just go back over the instructions to evaluate where it is you went wrong and correct it. I think this toy was well worth the effort I put into to the assembly process and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

1.0 out of 5 stars Forgeddaboudit, July 2, 2008

So, in theory this was to be a vast improvement to their first release of the oval shake and go speedway that was released when the Shake 'n Go cars FIRST came out. The 'exciting' figure 8, the death defying leap the car make off the ramp and lands (most of the time) onto the track and continues its race), the anticipation of 'will the cars crash into eachother, with the cars 'realistic' car smashing sounds...

In reality, one you DO get this thing together (which if you get this for a child for christmas or for their birthday, you best assemble it BEFORE presenting it to them, trust me... however, please read on before making any decision... I certianly read all reviews on amazon before even myself purchasing this very set for my children this christmas... if only I could learn to listen to reviews...) Once you DO get it together, after it falls apart again and again as you put it together, if it is played with on carpet, it will continue to fall apart again and again. Yes select PARTS of it are held together by screws, but the structure still falls apart to where it needs to be put back together all the time to be played with.

The ramp in which the cars go up always falls out and needs to be put back in, the yellow ramps themselves fall out and need to be put back in... my kids loved this product for about 2 weeks. Then there this $40 piece of falling apart hunk of oversized plastic sat taking up room on the carpet in the playroom, as they played with the shake and go cars on the carpets elsewhere where they could just go straight across the floor and in the kitchen... needless to say, this set that was bought months ago, sits in a big black garbage bag and is in the storage area of the basement.

Save your money and put it in to a bunch of different shake 'n go cars, they have great fun just racing them around the house.

4 kids, 8 shake 'n go cars = a great time.

My three-year old nephew loved this race track. I read the reviews indicating the track was tough to put together, but got it anyway. My brother had to work on it, but once we got it together it worked well. My nephew loves the car noises and the way the doors pop open when the cars crash.
