Best Kid's Music I've ever heard--buy it,

Brown Dog brought tears to my eyes... Guavi Guavi made me want to speak Senegalize... I can't stop singing Light Rain. Seriously, this is some of the best stuff Taj has done, and it's hidden away on a kid's tape--its one of the many great things I've discovered about fatherhood (disposable diapers are another).

This is a wonderful cd, I listened to it constantly when I was little and was on top of the world when at the age of nine I got to see Taj Mahal in concert. This cd made me appreaciate blues and now I love all of his new stuff as well. This cd is enjoyable for kids but as a college student I still listen to it.

Pete Townshend wrote an album (Iron Man) based on a children's story and it's great. Taj sings "childrens songs" here and they are great. Is someone noticing a trend? Basically Taj takes his acoustic guitar and harmonica and links these songs together into what feels like a live preformance in front of a group of school kids. The stories he tells are cute, the songs are brilliant and the preformances are superb. Don't be scared of a title like "Funky, Bluesy ABC's" it's GOOD. The entire album is good and it's good for you! I want to have kids just to introduce them to good music through this album.

LOVE IT!,

My sister sent us this CD when we had our first child and it has been our favorite. If you're a blues fan, it is very listenable children's music for adults.

Good music for dancing around the living room with baby. She loves the album and it doesn't get boring for parents, either.

Sing along with Taj.,

Taj Mahal can't be classified. His laid-back style spans blues, Caribbean, story songs, African, and all are charming. So much easier on parents' ears than the usual kid stuff! It invites singing along. Great for the car.
One star removed for excess narration.

I have been a Taj Mahal fan for many years. I love just about everything he has put out and when we had a kid I rushed out to buy this album. I found it disappointing !First of all, with only ten songs, none of which are very long, the playtime is rather short. There is still good material on the album much of it re-runs of his standards - like fishing blues with a little bit of added narrative which is not all that meaningful. Some of the songs sound like he used a drum machine. I really think your money is better spent on an album like "Giant Step" the kids won't care that it wasn't made specifically for children.

This Cd Sucks.,

I have never been a huge Taj Mahal fan, and this Cd is what completely turned me off him. Plus kids don't want to hear all the lectures and sanitized music, they want to hear the real thing. When I was a kid I grew up listening to Chris Smither and he never did any childrens stuff. So just get your kid the real thing
