Shakedown's BETTER than the last recommended Oprah Winfrey Best Seller I read. LOVE-HATE-REVENGE; I simply couldn't put it down!, September 18, 2005
This review is from: Shakedown (Paperback)
Before I bought this book I read both of the reviews posted here on Amazon. One review was GREAT, and another talked about the grammar used by some of the characters, but the reviewer still gave the book a GOOD review, so I decided to read Shakedown for myself and make my own decision. The first thing I noticed about this book was that I felt like I was watching a movie instead of reading a novel, so there was never a point when I became bored. I also found that the characters were very diverse, some ghetto, and others who were more preppy. Since we live in a world made up of all kinds of people, all of whom speak in very different ways, the grammar used by one or two of the characters fit their individual personality well. The more I read, the more it felt like the characters in this book were real people, some who you'll like and others that you grow to hate. I liked Butter who was funny, and I thought Paris was very classy; however, I just wish I'd read more about Paris since she was one of the more interesting characters. The villain in this book was a royal BITC... and I won't finish the word. To sum up my review of Shakedown by Nubian James, I CAN'T WAIT TO READ THE SEQUEL if there's going to be one to it. The way the book ended leads me to believe there might be.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Shakedown (Paperback)
Shakedown is about a girl who falls in love wit a man who seems to be everything she was looking for. The main characters of the story are Paris Hightower, Tyree Dickerson, Ebony Hightower(Paris' mother), and Mrs. Dickerson(Tyree's mother).A problem that the main character,Paris, runs into is that Mrs. Dickerson threathens to hunt down Paris' mother and turn her into the police for attempted murder.
I am not able to relate to the book "Shakedown" but i know of peoplewho have went through situations of this sort in reality. Some emotions that were felt in the book were emotions that i have felt but I was able to conquer my feelings before they got the best of me with help from the4 situations in the book.
"Shakedown" is truly and honestly a good book and i liked this book a lot. My favorite part of the book was when Paris recieves help from and unexpected person. There was never an event in the book where i can say that i disliked any part or had a least favorite part.
I would recommend this book to another person. The type of person that i would recommend this book to is a person who likes fiction urban books.
