4.0 out of 5 stars What I thought of this Romeo And Juliet, October 21, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Shakespeare - The Animated Tales: Romeo And Juliet [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First Of all I need to say I am a Shakespeare fanatic. My all time favorite is Romeo And Juliet. When I saw this I thought "this isn't all"!I think they left out some important scenes and dialoges. The whole reson for reading or watching Skakespeare is to enjoy the beauty of the words and story.I did not get that feeling from this.I would recomend this for a person starting to read Shakepere not for someone who has read Romeo & Juliet before.

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthy companion to Luhrmann's definitive version., June 20, 2001
This review is from: Shakespeare - The Animated Tales: Romeo And Juliet [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This excellent animation confirms Baz Luhrmann's hunch that 'Romeo and Juliet' was a great teen movie waiting to burst out of the classroom. There is no stilted poetics here; all the rush, energy and generosity of teenage emotion spills over, making the climactic chaos of events plausible. More than Luhrmann, however, this cartoon respects Shakespeare's text in the sense that it tries to recreate the culture that produced it, the elaborate rituals and emblems - the love scene is a glorious literalising of metaphor that ennobles the relationship just as the play's verse does.
