6'6" heavy action muskie rod,

This review is from: Shakespeare One-Piece Heavy Action Ugly Stik Fresh Water Rod (6-Feet 6-Inch) (Sports)
When they say heavy action they're not kidding! This rod has some serious backbone! It has power all the way to the tip. Being rated for 20 to 50 lb. line I'd say they got it about right. I don't know what the lure weight ratings are, but it's made to toss heavy stuff and believe me it can chuck a sinker big enough to get you deep without straining itself. I bought the rod to use for chasing that once in a lifetime trophy catfish and if I manage to hook one that size I have no doubts it's the right rod for the job. It's really too stiff for most fishing, but there are times you can use the brute power this rod has. I've bent regular Ugly Stik catfish rods rated for 15 to 30 lb. line almost double under load. This rod would have handled a catch like that with authority. They put a nice heavy-duty tip guide on this model. If you want to be ready for the big one you won't go wrong choosing this rod, but if you need to toss lighter baits long distances pick a more flexible model.

This rod has hardly any flexibility at all. This causes casting to be somewhat tricky as many people rely on the spring of the rod to help slingshot the lure/bait. I also own a Shakespeare Ugly Stik Tiger 7' rod (rated up to 50lbs)and find it to be a much better rod. This rod does not have the casting trigger ,however. If you want that I would recommend the Tiger Lite 7' heavy action (rated up to 40lbs). Happy fishing!
