This is not really a toy. It is just a pink miniature version of a real fishing rod and reel. The reel has a drag setting and comes pre-loaded with some pretty light line. It also comes with a rubber fish that you can attach to the end of the line for practice in the backyard.

The rod and reel work very well and can actually catch fish. The fishing line is pretty weak, so expect it to break if you catch anything over a few pounds.

My 3 1/2 year old daughter was very happy with this.

Don't eat the fishing rod (see comments re: lead paint) - duh!!!

I bought this for my granddaughter so that she could go fishing with daddy. The set arrived quickly in perfect condition. My granddaughter practiced and practiced her casting and then did go fishing with daddy. Unfortunately she didn't catch anything but the rod and reel are very cute, sturdy....perhaps the next time they go fishing she'll get the "catch of the day."

I bought this for my granddaughter for summer vacation. She had a blast with it. She wanted to go fishing everyday. She is four years old and it was perfect for her. You do need to provide supervision being that it is real.

This fishing pole was a gift, the second Shakespear fishing pole we have purchased, one for our first granddaughter (which has caught many trout in Vermont) and now one for our second granddaughter. Although we have no history with this particular purchase, we have no reason to think that it will not perform as expected. Shakespeare fishing poles like these work just like the "big kids" poles, and we have been more than pleased with past experience.

My wife & I purchased multiple sets of this rod for small kids (under 6 years old) at the Trout Fishing Derby as give aways. The kids loved them & we will be purchasing more.

I had to take it apart and repair it about 30 times in an hour. It tangles you unscrew the cap and the entire assembly falls out. You have to unscrew a bolt untangle it and put the button back in, put the spinner back in, thread the line back through, and if your lucky it will work 25% of the time after you have done this, so try again! A child's rod needs to be far more forgiving than this junk. I would be disappointed and feel ripped off if I bought this at the dollar tree. A cheap real pole never screws up this much and is far easier to re-thread. Use the money to buy a real rod and pole and slightly higher of a price, and you will not have a horrible experience, back this one goes! One star is way to high of a rating -1000 would be too high.

I still don't have my items from this vendor, ordered first week of August. I would have given the rating a zero, but the website would not permit.

I purchased two poles for my neices. They work wonderful. We did add a stronger fishing line then what came with the pole, but the pole itself is strong.

so fun...ordered for a friend (who loves fishing) who recently had twin grandaughters. He loved the matching gifts and cant wait for the little ones to become his fishing buddies.

This is an adorable pole, and works well for little hands. However, there is a sticker on the back that says it contains lead. I would not have ordered this product if I had known!
