4.0 out of 5 stars Shakespeare would be proud!
This CD is a wonderfully produced and arranged piece focusing on the Sonnets of the Bard. These are the shorter pieces written by Shakespeare and often overlooked for study in favor of the plays.

3.0 out of 5 stars John Denver does Shakespeare
I was disappointed in this CD. Unable to preview the tracks, I ordered it thinking it would be Elizabethan music. It isn't. Clark has a pleasant voice but the music is kind of '70's easy listening. In fact, the music and Clark's mellow voice seemed very much like John Denver's blander work.
I'd rather listen to the sonnets read than sung in this fashion. If...

I recommend it for anyone who wants to enjoy a fine, unusual musical compostition. Note: I have two teenage boys who are mostly into Punk Rock, but who also appreciate a good Shakespearean theatrical adaptation. They both love this CD!

WONDERFUL MUSIC WITH ADDICTIVE MELODIES. BILL CLARK HAS A REAL TALENT FOR PLEASING THE LISTENER. ONCE YOU LISTEN, IT IS HARD TO STOP. PROBABLY THE BEST MUSICAL RENDITION OF SHAKESPEARE'S SONNETS THAT IS AVAILABLE TODAY.

This unique little gem of a CD is a must for the Shakespeare fan--be it teacher or simply aficionado. If you enjoy the sonnets, if you enjoy the guitar, if you enjoy folk singing, you'll love this. William Clark pours out emotion, humor, and talent in this novel undertaking. Make the Bard's words come alive in the classroom. Enjoy listening in your car. It's a winner!

William Clark certainly knows how to phrase words from Shakespeare and his own music into songs that touch the heart and soul.

His voice and style is most tender and makes one want to listen to his songs again and again.

A "Must Buy" CD for all, even if you're not a Shakespeare fan!

I'd rather listen to the sonnets read than sung in this fashion. If I'd have been able to preview the tracks, I wouldn't have bought this CD.

For beauty of vocal quality, phrasing, and meloldic line, this CD ranks at the top. Bill Clark has captured the nuanced essense of a Shakespeare sonnet with a a gracious air blown from Shakespeare's own time. I'm anxiously awaiting another CD from Mr. Clark.

Bill has obviously mastered the nuances of Shakespeare, as evidenced by this innovative collection. He breathes fresh life into those pieces which we've all studied at one time or another, giving literary history a unique vision and unbridled passion.

This CD is a lovely, smooth and romantic group of songs. Some are soft and romantic while others are playful and spunky. Bill Clark does a wonderful job of melding Shakespeare's words and music into someting that is enjoyable for all ages. Voice music & verse combine together to make this a very enjoyable CD that I play again and again. This is not just long hair music. Try it.... you'll like it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars All of Shakespeare's a Song, March 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Shakespeare in Song: Songs & Sonnets Celebrating The Bard (Audio CD)
William Clark treats us to the variety of life as only he and Shakespeare can see it. Clark weaves country, blues, Renaissance and folk melodies around the poetry of the Bard's sonnets and songs from the plays. The variety is engaging and Clark's music playful and emotive. The listener will find themself grabbing that dusty Shakespeare collection from off the shelf to follow along while they tap their feet to this refreshing collection of original music. Just as Shakespeare touches on the gamut of human experience, so does Clark. A wonderful introduction to the Bard's lyric for some, a treasured new addition to an existing love for others. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, March 4, 2001

What a beautiful piece of work! It's so fun to find something so creative, purely genuine, and rich. I heard William live at Borders in Glendale and I was so impressed with his ability to add a contemporary edge to something as classic as Shakespeare and the integrity grew through each song. Williams quality and beautiful voice is invititing. He welcomes you into the music and then walks you through the pages of Shakespeare to experience it like you've always wanted to. Very cool William!

Love having this fun and sophisticated work in my library and I look forward to more! p.s. Thanks for the detail in the recording quality! Excellent!
