This would be a great fishing rod...if it didn't have lead. I bought 2 of these for my kids. Right as I was about to take it out of the packaging to set it up for my kids, I noticed a sticker on the back of the packaging that said something to the nature of, "Warning: contains lead which can be harmful if eaten or chewed. May also release dust containing lead." Nice. Makes you wonder what part of it is really a lead hazard...the handles? The paint? A mechanism inside the reel and that it really isn't that much of a hazard?

I bought this for my 5-year-old, mainly because he spotted it in the store while we were getting some tackle for a fishing trip. I hadn't planned on buying it, because it looked a little tacky. But it obviously appeals to kids. I'm so happy I bought it. It kept him busy the entire day. The rod is fairly well made. The reel did get tangled a couple of times, and I had to take it apart and clear up the mess, but once he got the hang of it (which was fairly quickly), the reel was fairly reliable.

The fish that it comes with is made of rubber, and there's enough weight on it to get a good cast. Plus it's large enough that it's fun for kids to reel in. I suppose when my son's a little older, he could replace the fake fish with a hook and use it to actually try to catch some real fish.

I bought this for my Nephew because my husband wanted to take him fishing. The pole is super cute and has a little plastic fish to practice casting. I wouldn't give it to a kid to actually go fishing with, but to play around it's just perfect! This item weights not even a pound, and Amazon shipped it in this HUGE box that could have fit about 10 of them in there.
