My twin 5 year olds are counting down the days till they can go fishing with dad and pop!

It came with the line tangled, the reel is as cheap as can be, and nearly impossible to fix one the line breaks (which it did right away).

Took it home to him and he practiced with it for about 15 minutes before he started crying that it wasn't working.

This would be a great fishing rod...if it didn't have lead. I bought 2 of these for my kids. Right as I was about to take it out of the packaging to set it up for my kids, I noticed a sticker on the back of the packaging that said something to the nature of, "Warning: contains lead which can be harmful if eaten or chewed. May also release dust containing lead." Nice. Makes you wonder what part of it is really a lead hazard...the handles? The paint? A mechanism inside the reel and that it really isn't that much of a hazard?

Ever buy those cat toy fishing rods so you can play with your cats? And then it breaks because your cats like to play rough? I went through several of the fishing rods made for playing with cats; none lasted more than a couple of weeks. I solved my problem by buying this real fishing rod kit. It comes with a plastic fish, but I changed that out with a mouse play toy. My cats love it; we use it every day, and it has lasted for over a year. Well worth the price!

I'm not sure if me or my 2 year old loves this fishing pole more?! We have 3 - they work great and don't take up a lot of space.

This is a total piece of junk, do not buy any Shakespeare kids fishing rod if you want your kid to like fishing. It came with the line tangled, the reel is as cheap as can be, and nearly impossible to fix one the line breaks (which it did right away).

I've bought 2 of these Shakespear kid's fishing poles and had 3 break...all in one day. I first purchased the Buzz Lightear one because my son loves Toy Story. Got home to let him practice casting and it didn't work right off the bat. I took it apart and tried fixing it to no avail. I went back to exchange it and before doing so, I tested another one on the aisle and it broke right then and there.

I was just about ready to pay an extra $10 and get a good kids Zebco package when I saw a Shakespear Spider-Man pole kit just like the Buzz Lightyear ones. I picked it up, tested it and it reeled in and out just fine 5 times. So I bought it for my son because he loves Spider-Man even more. Took it home to him and he practiced with it for about 15 minutes before he started crying that it wasn't working.

Lesson learned. All of these Shakespear children's fishing poles, no matter what cartoon character they plaster all over it, are garbage. They are priced $10 or less for a reason. Don't break your kid's heart, just spend the extra $5-10 on a quality product.

Great product as far as this type of pole can be. Unfortunately, they never last too long. My grandson enjoyed it while it worked. Finally just got a regular sized pole.

I bought this for my 5-year-old, mainly because he spotted it in the store while we were getting some tackle for a fishing trip. I hadn't planned on buying it, because it looked a little tacky. But it obviously appeals to kids. I'm so happy I bought it. It kept him busy the entire day. The rod is fairly well made. The reel did get tangled a couple of times, and I had to take it apart and clear up the mess, but once he got the hang of it (which was fairly quickly), the reel was fairly reliable.

The fish that it comes with is made of rubber, and there's enough weight on it to get a good cast. Plus it's large enough that it's fun for kids to reel in. I suppose when my son's a little older, he could replace the fake fish with a hook and use it to actually try to catch some real fish.
