This review is from: Shakespeare's Will (Paperback)
I saw this play performed at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in the summer of 2007. It was a brilliant performance by Canadian theatre great Seana McKenna. It was clear at the end of this thrilling night of theatre that this amazing actress had a solid script from which to work. When I returned home I ordered it and greedily devoured the text when it arrived on my doorstep. Although the events are completely fictionalized and hold almost no historical accuracies, one finishes this play with the feeling that they have traveled into the heart of Elizabethan England. However, the play's universal appeal does not come from that feeling, but rather from the most amazing portrait of Anne Hathaway that is created by Mr. Thiessen. His creation of Anne allows the reader to peek into the soul of a wife and mother. The play has a poetical form and every word seems carefully crafted. It is great literature and compelling human drama. Relevant works make us appreciate and understand our humanity in a greater way. Shakespeare's Will does just that. Buy this play!
