5.0 out of 5 stars Another kickin' album by Billy Thorpe, August 6, 2000

Marit Blanton (Alpine, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shakin the Cage (Audio CD)
This album is full of "gotta hear it again" songs. Every song on the album is great from the jungle sounds of "Voodoo" to pure rocking on "Taking it out to the People", "Nightlife", and "How Does it Feel." Mick Fleetwood and Billy Thorpe created a masterpiece. Excellent lead vocals by Bekka Bramlett. This is a must-have cd for any Billy Thorpe fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars best rock album ever!, January 26, 2008

With Bekka Bramlett's vocals, Mick Fleetwood's drums, the unbelievable guitars of Billy Thorpe & Gregg Wright and every other mind blowing musician on this sorely underrated CD.. you've got an honest to G-D perfect album. Not one weak song - not one.

I've played this CD so much I'm buying another as a back-up. The thought that something might happen to the original is just too much to bear.

My only sorrow is that more people don't know about Shakin' The Cage and are missing out on perfection, not to mention Bekka going virtually unnoticed. I swear it's criminal!

5.0 out of 5 stars why isn't bekka everywhere?, August 8, 2002
This review is from: Shakin the Cage (Audio CD)
my favorite thing abuot this album is bekka brammlet. nightlife is the best song on the album. her voice is so strong on all her performances. the fleetwood mac time cd didn't do her justice. if you love loud and sexy blues/rock guitars and vocals - get this if you can!

Best cd I've listened to for quite a while and it was recorded in 1991. Billy Thorpe rocks, its a pity that the band couldn't stay together for longer.

What an exciting cd, to think this was recorded back in 1992.Why the band didnt go further i will never understand. This is what rock is all about pure magic as only a band of this calibre could deliver.Billy Thorpe (rip) singer songwriter brilliant. Bekka Bramlett on vocals singing with Billy what a joy. This is just one of those great cd's worthy of any collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent listening, November 17, 2010
This review is from: Shakin the Cage (Audio CD)
A friend turned me on to the album, and let me tell ya....it's a keeper. Excellent production, performance, execution. Sparkling instruments, strong full harmony-filled vocals. The drumming is strong and accurate, and yet easy on the ears. The album has so much depth and richness to it, that you can listen to it multiple times in a row. There's always a small turn or surprise. There really isn't a sore spot in it, and I am a VERY critical listener. It will take you from smokey blues, to funky rock guitar riffs to the creepy "Voodoo". The album is a must-have for any music listener...but especially if you like a little extra. I have to say it would be IMPOSSIBLE for ANYONE to be disappointed...seriously. Underrated? Underrated can be overused...but if there ever was one, this is it. Buy it now

5.0 out of 5 stars dazeins, January 8, 2010
This review is from: Shakin the Cage (Audio CD)
I found this CD at a second hand store in Ventura last year, May 2009. Because Mick Fleetwood was on the CD I had to buy it, I'm a big Fleewood Mac fan primarily their early years. Well I have to say it's one of my favorites, I just love love love it! It's a great music to listen when on a road trip and I love the lead vocals! To me it's original rock and roll at it's finest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shakin' the Cage, August 10, 2009
This review is from: Shakin the Cage (Audio CD)
This CD is aptly titled- ZOO:"Shakin'the Cage." It is gritty and grinds thru blues-rock better than most music of this genre. It is flat-out savage. Comparisons are unfair but it sounds like Hagar/Montrose with much better vocals. I agree with the other reviewers...Bekka Bramlett has more grinding blues in her soul than most female blues voices ever did- and this includes "The Bonnies" (Raitt, Bramlett and Tyler) and she does a much nastier groan than Janis ever did and she is just flat-out-better than Stevie ever was... c'mon Mick- promote this girl better. You let her down by not promoting Zoo or "Time" better. Bekka is your golden girl to more fame and Zoo's guitarists make Lindsey look feeble(and believe me- I love the guitar work of Lindsey Buckingham!)Friends, the thumping drums of Mick Fleetwood combined with the talents of guitarists Billy Thorpe & Gregg Wright along with the constant drive of bassist Tom Lilly make this CD a must have. Somehow along the line- this CD and Fleetwood Mac's "Time" (also with Bekka and Billy) have missed the "must promote" list. More blues-rockers need to hear this CD. Look at the great names I mentioned above- and the ZOO cast blow them away! And for you contry folk- Bekka and Billy have also combined to make a sweet country CD entitled (no less) "Bekka & Billy." People, put some cash down on these CDs... you won't go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hidden treasure, July 17, 2009

This is a solid disc. The participants were all veteran rockers other than the female lead, and she's gone on to have a great career in her own right. Billy Thorpe and Mic Fleetwood were at there best here. Only 1 song on the disc got any air time as it came out about the same time clear channel was taking over every station on the dial. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of this disc and give it a listen. It's one of those discs that takes a few plays all the way through to be appreciated, but it's very much worth the effort.
