5.0 out of 5 stars A must have album for any rock fan
As a long standing Kim Mitchell fan, this is his best offering. There is not a dud song on this album. A great mix of ballad-like songs and toe tapping rock beats. Kim is a genius guitar player and this album is a classic. If you ever have a chance to catch him in concert don't miss it.

3.0 out of 5 stars KIM MITCHELL goes "pop"!
SHAKIN' was KIM MITCHELL's attempt to go mainstream. It's a
very synthesizer laden album and very poppy. I think about half
the album is very listenable...and the other half rather for-
gettable. I can't even remember the song titles of the songs I
dislike! PATIO LANTERNS was, in my opinion, a very bad choice

5.0 out of 5 stars Canada's finest!!, October 22, 1999

It's a great shame that this CD isn't currently available as it contains one of Kim's greatest songs, "Hitting the Ground". Buy it if you can!!

4.0 out of 5 stars good rocker, March 19, 2011

I like this Cd. I have the album too but I haven't used the turntable in at least 15 years. It is nice to hear these songs again. Local radio turned me on to this Canadian rocker back in the eighties when a artist would sing a variety of songs that didn't sound the same on one album. The eighties rocked! I also have "akimbo alogo" by Kim Mitchell.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth and fine, September 14, 2011
This review is from: Shakin Like a Human (Audio CD)
I'd had the band Max Webster's final studio CD "Universal Juveniles" (with their duet with the band Rush) for years, but only after decades did I get around to looking for some of Kim Mitchell's solo CDs. I have in pretty short order purchased "Shakin' Like a Human Being", "Rockland", "I Am A Wild Party", and "Itch".

"Shakin" is probably the best of the bunch despite the fact that it has radio-smooth production. It's one of the few CDs of mine I can play in the car while driving with my wife. Great songs with great hooks. "Rockland" is very nearly as good but, as you can guess from the title, a little more energetic and grittier. It still sounds pretty smooth overall. "Wild Party" has a couple studio tracks but it is a live hits collection basically. Very clean sounding recording for being recorded in front of a crowd. "Itch" is OK but more of an uneven ride than "Shakin" or "Rockland". Mitchell tries his hand at Chili Peppers-type rap on one track, puts horns on another. Some songs are very good, but I don't find it to be a smooth listening experience.

I'd give all the CDs good marks but "Shakin" and "Rockland" are the most essential.

SHAKIN' was KIM MITCHELL's attempt to go mainstream. It's a
very synthesizer laden album and very poppy. I think about half
the album is very listenable...and the other half rather for-
gettable. I can't even remember the song titles of the songs I
dislike! PATIO LANTERNS was, in my opinion, a very bad choice
as a leadoff single. It's one of the corniest songs KIM MITCHELL
and PYE DUBOIS ever wrote together and probably a big disappoint-
ment for those who bought his previous album for GO FOR A SODA.
GET LUCKY is a terrific hard rock song, with a great guitar solo
from MITCHELL.THAT'S THE HOLD is another catchy hard rock song
with a very singalongable refrain.Either of these songs would
have been excellent choices as lead off singles. Other tracks I
liked were ALANNA LOVES ME, IN MY SHOES and HITTING THE GROUND.
The rest of this is either too synth heavy or too mellow or too
poppy or all of the above at the same time! Still worth buying,
tho!
